Falconer’s Lodge

Built around 1814 from knapped flint and gault brick, Falconer's Lodge is a striking Grade II listed property crowned with an Arabian-Gothic tower. The distinctive architecture—once home to the Falconers' Club and later part of the historic Didlington Estate—sets it apart immediately. Inside, the character has been preserved through careful restoration: high ceilings, soft furnishings and views across the gardens and woodland create a calm, refined atmosphere throughout.

The ground floor holds a sitting room with woodburner, a well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher and range, and bedroom one with a zip-and-link kingsize bed. Upstairs are two more bedrooms—one with bunk beds and one with a four-poster super kingsize—plus a bathroom with both bath and shower cubicle. Electricity, heating, wi-fi, bed linen and towels are included; the woodburner comes with initial fuel. A table tennis table is available, and there is parking for three cars on the property. One well-behaved pet stays free.

The enclosed garden with sitting-out area opens directly onto Thetford Forest's 47,000 acres of woodland and heathland. The lodge sits within quiet countryside bordered by mature trees, making it a base for exploring or simply retreating from busier parts of Norfolk and Suffolk. The narrow, steep stairs are a feature of the period building. Smoking is not permitted inside.

An experience we thoroughly enjoyed, the property was well-equipped and well-situated, just far enough from civilisation to allow you to feel as if you were in your own little world. Great history, too. Pity that it’s being sold.

As I've said in previous reviews about this place. It's a lovely hidden gem in the Thetford Forest. Nestled away in the woodland, peace and quiet in abundance with nature looking in watching you look out. Great place to stay for all ages and in a fantastic location for nature lovers, bird watching or just to have total relaxation. It's like having your own little castle for the duration of your stay. The owners are lovely and very helpful. Everything clean and tidy with all you need for your stay. Enjoy... we did.
