Hawthorns Glamping - Fallow

Photo: Patrice Archer

Breckland's quiet countryside surrounds this eco-glamping site near Dereham, where Hawthorns Glamping sits across three acres of meadowland. The setting suits anyone wanting space and fresh air without the usual campsite density—other accommodation sits well away, leaving you genuinely alone with the landscape.

Fallow is a wood-framed safari tent sleeping six across three bedrooms: a kingsize, a bunk room, and another kingsize. The ground-floor layout means one step to the entrance, and everything opens onto a central living and dining area with a working kitchen. A shower room with cubicle serves the tent. Solar power runs the whole site, yet WiFi and electric heating are standard, along with bed linen and towels. Outside, a decked area and fire pit face the surrounding fields, with parking for two cars on site.

The setup works for families or groups wanting a genuinely different break. Pets stay free. No smoking is in place. A welcome pack arrives with your booking. If stargazing or simply sitting by a fire in the open counts as what you're after, this is a concrete proposition rather than a polished sales pitch.

We had the best time at Hawthornes glamping. It was relaxing and perfect for our 4 year old and 1 year old to run around safely. There was great toys and board games in the safari tent and the outdoor kitchen and swings were a massive hit. The tent was equipped with everything we needed and was immaculate. We were so comfortable and Robin was at hand if we needed anything. My daughter loved the cabin bed and we loved having a fire pit in the evening. Some things we did whilst on our break: ROARRR adventure park was brilliant for the kids. Beans seal trips- an hour boat ride to do some seal spotting. Strawberry picking . Flow craft cafe for pottery painting. We highly recommend The Lodge for dinner too. We had incredible food there! We had such a fab weekend and this accommodation was absolutely perfect! Thank you.

We had a lovely stay in Muntjac despite temperatures getting below zero over night. The tent has everything you need from an air fryer to comfy beds. On arrival the hosts had been in and started up the log burner and turned the lights on for us which was a lovely touch as we arrived in the dark. There are four lovely electric blankets which we used to keep us warm. Hosts easy to contact before and during stay. We recommend the horkey kitchen a two minute drive away for breakfast and Becks fish and chips about five minutes drive. Overall a lovely stay we hope to return in warmer weather.

Superbly equipped Safari tents, with all the facilities, also available is a trailer house. Currently very spacious site, with only 3 encampments leaving lots of room for children to play. One niggle is water pressure was too low for showers and then drainage was a problem in our tent.

Disappointing stay in Fallow. Not all the amenities listed when we booked were in the tent. There was no cooker, no mini fridge, the play area for the children was neglected and a bit sad looking. The heater was woefully inadequate for the space. The other tents had wood burners and heaters making the guests who stayed there much more comfortable. The breakage charges are high and are more that the cost of the items to replace. The final disappointment was the message we received at 730 am on the day of departure which told us to strip all the beds. Would not stay again and not recommend.
