About Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel
Breakfast and a proper bar are part of daily life at Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel, alongside a restaurant serving guests throughout their stay. The hotel sits on College Green in the heart of Bristol, with 266 rooms across a large city-centre building. Rooms are en-suite and come with air conditioning, though this doesn't always run as it should, so it's worth checking if a cool room matters to you. Family rooms and accessible rooms are available, and each comes with the usual comforts including free WiFi and room service.
Beyond food and drink, the hotel offers a gym, business services and meeting rooms, making it as suited to work trips as leisure breaks. Practical extras include chargeable on-site parking, an electric vehicle charge point, laundry service and luggage storage, plus porter and concierge services for anyone wanting a hand getting settled. Pets are welcome, and the hotel also handles weddings.
The location is a strong point, standing opposite Bristol Cathedral and close to the Harbourside, with pubs, restaurants and entertainment nearby. Golf, fishing and watersports are all within reach for those looking to venture further afield. Staff are consistently described as helpful, and the combination of central position and straightforward parking makes this a practical base for exploring the city.

Lovely old building with air-conditioning! Great location and parking charges are reduced for residents. Spacious and Clean room with good facilities. Dog friendly The bar was really accommodating and allowed us to have our food in the Marriott side of the hotel so that we could eat something and didnt have to order room service.

We chose this hotel expecting a comfortable and professionally managed stay, but unfortunately our experience fell well below the standard we anticipated. The cleanliness was particularly concerning. We discovered aphids in the room, and the sofa bed mattress had visible urine stains. This is simply unacceptable for any hotel and raises serious concerns about the property’s hygiene standards and quality control. Operational issues further diminished our stay. Throughout our visit, only one of the elevators was functioning, resulting in lengthy waits each morning and causing unnecessary delays during the busiest times of the day. The most disappointing aspect, however, was the management’s handling of our departure. We had reserved two rooms and were travelling with seven pieces of luggage, yet staff refused to allow us to leave more than four bags in the lobby, despite the circumstances. Rather than demonstrating flexibility or attempting to accommodate guests, the response was rigid and unhelpful. This avoidable decision disrupted our carefully planned itinerary, caused us to miss valuable time, and left us feeling that guest convenience was not a priority. The hotel’s location, within walking distance of the Floating Harbour, is a positive feature. Regrettably, a convenient location cannot compensate for poor cleanliness, inadequate facilities, and disappointing customer service. We left with the impression that the hotel falls short in the areas that matter most.

We have stayed at this hotel four times now, and unfortunately, each visit seems to be worse than the last. What was once a hotel we enjoyed returning to has become incredibly disappointing. The biggest issue is the value for money. The hotel is significantly overpriced for the standard of the rooms and facilities. The entire property feels very tired and is in desperate need of a full refurbishment. The mattress was absolutely terrible and left both my partner and me with bad backs after our stay. On top of that, there is no air conditioning in the rooms, which made sleeping almost impossible during the recent hot weather. The facilities are equally disappointing. The gym has a noticeable damp smell, making it unpleasant to use, and the executive lounge offers a very poor selection of food and drinks that falls well below what you would expect for the premium price. On a previous visit, we even discovered silverfish in our room. When we reported it to staff, the response was simply, “Thanks for letting us know.” There was no apology, no sense of urgency, and no offer of compensation, which was extremely disappointing. Sadly, this hotel no longer lives up to the price it charges or the standards it should be delivering. Unless significant investment is made in upgrading the rooms, improving the facilities, and enhancing customer service, we won’t be returning.

The hotel is perfectly located in the city centre, making dining, shopping & transport incredibly convenient. The lobby staff were very friendly and helpful. There is an underground carpark with plenty of spaces. Our room was very spacious, providing more than enough room for a family of four. However, the bathroom extractor fan was quite weak, leaving a lot of steam after a shower. The floor tiles become very slippery when wet, which is a safety hazard. Also, upgrading the beds to upholstered headboards would definitely improve comfort.
