About CoalShed

CoalShed takes its name from its industrial roots, and the building still carries that no-nonsense character, now reworked into a modern hotel on Booth Rd in Bristol. The conversion has kept things clean-lined rather than fussy, with a bar and a locally inspired restaurant giving the ground floor a proper sense of purpose.

Rooms are modern and well-equipped, with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and comfortable beds, and several come with family or accessible options. Showers run hot and powerful, and small touches such as ground coffee and granola add a bit of thought to the basics. Common areas are kept quiet, making the place easy to settle into whether you're passing through or staying a while. A kitchen and games room round out the facilities, alongside 24 hour reception and free WiFi throughout.

Prices are reasonable for what's on offer, and the location gives easy access to the wider city. Nearby, guests can find pubs, restaurants, entertainment, a golf course and watersports, making CoalShed a practical base for exploring Bristol beyond its own walls.

Please avoid. Extremely disappointing experience. The entire purpose of booking overnight accommodation is to get a decent night's sleep. Unfortunately, that was impossible due to an exceptionally loud air conditioning unit in the room which continued throughout the night. At around 4am, after being unable to sleep, I reported the issue directly to the owners and Booking.com. The property has since acknowledged the disturbance, apologised for it, and even offered compensation, so there is no dispute that the problem existed. What is disappointing is how the matter was handled afterwards. Rather than accepting responsibility for a room that was not fit for its primary purpose, the focus shifted to suggesting that I should have called an emergency number in the middle of the night and that, because the room was technically occupied, a full refund was not appropriate. The argument seems to be that because they didn't know about the fault beforehand, they shouldn't be responsible for the impact it had. As a paying guest, that's not really my concern. I paid for a room where I could sleep and that simply wasn't what I received. Despite accepting there was a problem, the property refused to provide a fair resolution and instead made small goodwill offers while continuing to argue that the stay itself was satisfactory. Judge for yourself, but if a room prevents you from sleeping and the business still refuses to properly put things right, that says a lot about how customer complaints are handled. Very disappointing.

Great place to stay. Very clean and exactly what you need. They send a message at 10 for guests in the common area to quiet down so you will get your sleep. I would recommend an eye mask if you need a pitch black room (exit sign visible understandably in the dark)

Such a fantastic place to stay if you need a quick reasonably priced bed for the night or for a few days. I work away in Bristol and I always try to book in here before booking anywhere else. The location is perfect.
