Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel

I recently stayed at The Grand Sunday and was thoroughly impressed from start to finish. The welcome I received was warm, friendly and genuinely professional, making me feel valued from the moment I arrived. The room itself was exceptional—generously sized with a fantastic layout that was both practical and comfortable. Everything was immaculately clean, and the attention to detail was evident throughout. The bed deserves a special mention, as it was quite simply one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. Combined with the high-quality bed linen, it made for an outstanding night’s sleep. Breakfast was equally impressive, with an excellent selection of fresh, high-quality food. Everything was well presented, regularly replenished and served by attentive staff, making for a fantastic start to the day. As a regular corporate traveller, I found The Grand Sunday to be an ideal hotel. It provides an excellent balance of comfort, quality, professionalism and value, making it perfectly suited to business stays while also being a great choice for leisure guests. Overall, this was an outstanding experience. The hotel is beautifully maintained, the staff provide excellent service, and every aspect of the stay exceeded my expectations. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Grand Sunday and very much look forward to returning in the future.

I read the reviews after booking and thought eek! But, I booked on their website which didn't require payment in advance, so when I turned up, I asked to see the room first on the basis that recent reviews were so bad. The first room I was shown was up many stairs and corridors and looked out onto a roof. It was a bit dingy (not much natural light) but all clean, etc, just the outlook was not great and the position in the hotel a bit of a pain. The helpful guy showing me round was happy to show me another when I said I wasn't really that stoked with it.This one was much better—huge, clean, walk in shower in a bathroom that looked fairly newly done. I'd say they are (were?) having teething issues with a change in chain management, but there are some nice rooms, staff were responsive and pleasant, the location is great, the decor was nice (at least in the second room I saw), and the building does have some charm. I paid $68 for the night, which was a bargain (comparable to what I'd have been paying for a private hostel room with a shared bathroom—about 30 quid cheaper than anything else on the day). So, book direct, check the room first, politely ask to see another if you're not happy, and if you get a decent rate, it's a winner for sure.

I forgot to read the reviews before I booked this hotel but I thought I’d be safe with a 4 star hotel! I arrived at reception and there was a lot of people standing about and no ordered queue, it was also really hot. There was only one working lift which seemed like was on its last legs too. I got to my room with little hope for any air conditioning but thankfully, my room was air conditioned although the unit was very loud! My room was small which is fine and looked neat on the surface but the walls and carpets were all showing signs of age with stains dotted about. I went to the bathroom and was shocked to see a shower over the bath with a shower curtain! It also looked pretty grotty. I only stayed for one night but the walls were so thin, I could hear everyone in the corridor and the guests next door. There was also a lot of noise coming from outside - there must be a club or something nearby as there was thumping music. I paid £108 for this room and I wish I’d booked somewhere else, very disappointing.

I had an amazing stay at Bristol Grand Hotel. The location is perfect - walking distance to Harbourside, Wapping Wharf, Spike Island, Stokes Croft, less than a block from St Nicholas Market. The service is very good and the rooms are very large and well equipped. The decoration is modern and welcoming. The cleaning is great. I don’t know about the breakfast because I preferred to go to certain places I had on my plan, but there’s a restaurant at the hotel. The only improvements I can think of are double glazing windows and a less expensive parking - £19 per night only to park is really a lot. Other than that, great and cost effective option in Bristol.
