About Premier Inn Carrickfergus
Walk into a room at Premier Inn Carrickfergus and you get a properly comfortable bed, an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning and free WiFi, with some rooms looking straight out over the sea. Family rooms and accessible rooms are available, and while the decor in parts of the hotel is a little dated, the rooms themselves are kept clean and well maintained across the three floors.
Downstairs there's a restaurant and bar serving breakfast that includes a traditional Ulster Fry, along with drinks brought to your room if you'd rather stay put. Staff are on hand around the clock at 24 hour reception, and free on-site parking takes the hassle out of arriving by car.
The hotel sits on Alexandra Pier, within easy reach of Carrickfergus Castle and the marina, with fishing, golf and watersports nearby along with a choice of pubs and restaurants nearby for the evening. Belfast is close enough for a day trip, making this a practical base for exploring County Antrim without paying over the odds.
What guests say
The hotel is starting to show its age. The inside does look better than the outside. There is plenty of free parking. The front desk staff was super helpful, when we accidentally left something in the room. The location is great. You can walk to town for restaurants, to the train station, to the castle, to a grocery store and along the bay. We used this as a base to explore Belfast. We took the train into Belfast, it was quick, inexpensive and it beats parking and driving in the city.

When great hotels like this exist, why would anyone pay a small fortune for a room. I'm a little late leaving this review - I stayed Oct 30-31 2025. Arrived back into Norn Iron for a flying visit in strong winds and heavy sideways rain (welcome home......). Actually we did two flying visits prior to landing for real - such was the weather. I'm a bit of a newcomer to the Premier Inn family (a couple of years). Right from when I entered the reception from the apocalypse going on outside, I was greeted in a very friendly way, almost like I was family. No airs and graces and no pretense - just a good honest Northern Ireland welcome that felt real. The hotel common areas were very clean and well maintained and organized. No bad smells or funny noises and no sign of anything broken. The room was amazing - I don't ask for much simply because I don't need it, but if I were a little more demanding this hotel would meet those demands, I have no doubt. Super comfortable bed and great shower - and all spotlessly clean. No noise from outside to speak of when I was there - it was even hard to hear the storm going on outside. One thing I miss when I'm not in Northern Ireland is the Ulster Fry (capitalized here because it is a "thing" and a very important one!). I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the fry I had - as good as any I have had in the centre of Belfast - and for the purists out there it had beans and mushrooms, and I'm ok with that. It also had (for those new to this particular culinary experience) bacon (great bacon); black pudding and sausage, fried soda bread and potato bread. If you haven't tried this, you really have to! Your heart will thank you (but not if you have too many, although nobody knows how many is 'too many.') Oh, almost forgot, I also had a delicious bowl of porridge (oatmeal for those other English speakers), and an amazing pot of tea! And to make it even better I had a beautiful view, through the breakfast room window, of Carrickfergus Castle, built in 1177. I'll bet they were glad the Premier Inn was there while construction was ongoing 🤣 I have to give a big thanks to the lady in charge of breakfast. Can't remember her name (sorry), but I remember she is from Liverpool. She was awesome - super friendly, attentive and very good at her job. All the staff I encountered here were first class, just doing their job and wearing a smile. Nothing was too much trouble for them This place does hospitality very well. When you combine it with the Northern Ireland attitude to people, it becomes even better. Thanks everybody at Premier inn, Carrickfergus!! 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The shower did not work properly and then stopped working all together. Not enough towels or glasses in the room, we asked for more and the maid took them away the next day. There is no phone in the room, so each time we needed to ask for towels or get the shower fixed etc. etc. we had to go down to the front desk to ask. Definitely wouldn't stay there again.

Dated rooms compared to other premier inns. Lots of drunk people right near the entrance. Didn’t feel safe with our children. Beautiful view that was sadly spoiled. Extremely helpful and kind staff member on reception though.
