Rowter Farm Campsite

Pretty barebones campsite which I’d be happy with if it was a bit cheaper. Had to pay for shower and only 2 showers in the camp. No sign of pizza or jacket potato service as described online and with signs. So don’t rely on this, deffo bring your own food for tea. No eggs in the egg box on the road so don’t bother looking in there like I did. Good points were the location, size of field and carefree spirit of place.

Over the weekend it cost us £60 for three nights for two people with a tent. Not bad! The spot is a little windy but not too bad if you’re nearer the farm. Facilities are pretty decent, but there is only one shower for the men and one for the women. £1 for three minutes isn’t too bad, just make sure you bring cash. Easy walk to Mam Tor, Blue John Cavern, and not too far a drive from other popular Peaks destinations. Staff are friendly and nice, and the campsite had a good vibe!

Basic camp field lovely views of mam tor . Need to open the gate from the road and a drive up to the field.toilet facilities, shower i think is £1 coin for a few minutes 1 available and washing up area. Amazing walks from this camp site . Mam tor on the door step . Would highly recommend 👌🏼

We stayed at Rowter Farm Campsite from Friday to Sunday (2 nights) as a group of 9. We arrived at around 3pm on Friday, and as expected, the campsite was quite busy. There are two camping fields, and we assumed one was more suited to families with children and the other was mainly for adults. We stayed in the first field, which seemed to be the adult camping area. Even though it was busy, there was still plenty of space for our group to pitch our tents together. If you're camping in a larger group, I'd definitely recommend arriving at the same time so you can all set up together, as pitches started filling up quite quickly. To get to the campsite, you have to drive down a long, narrow lane. One thing we found a bit frustrating was having to get out of the car every time to open and close the gate at the entrance. Leaving the campsite felt a little unsafe too, as you have to leave your car close to the 60mph road while you shut the gate. There are also lots of sheep around the campsite, so expect to hear them throughout the day and night. It wasn't too bad, but it's worth being careful when driving as they often wander across the road. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. The campsite has toilets, showers and a washing-up area, which is great as not all basic campsites provide these facilities. The showers cost £1 for 3 minutes and the water was nice and hot. There were two toilets for the women's side and, if I remember correctly, two toilets and two urinals for the men's side. Throughout our stay, the toilet roll and hand soap were always well stocked. The facilities are fairly basic, but they were clean and well maintained. Before arriving, we were a little worried there wouldn't be enough toilets or showers because there aren't many, but even on a sunny weekend we hardly had to queue. At most, there was only one person in front of us. We paid £46 per pitch for two nights. Between us, we had four tents for nine people. You're definitely paying for the fantastic location. Mam Tor is only a short walk from the campsite, Peak Cavern ("The Devil's Arse") is just down the road, and you drive through Cave Dale to reach the campsite. Blue John Cavern is also very close, along with plenty of popular hiking routes and mountain trails. You can even see Bamford Edge from the campsite. It's an excellent base if you're planning to explore the Peak District, with so many attractions and walks nearby. Before we visited, I noticed quite a few reviews saying the owners were rude. Personally, we didn't find that at all. We thought they were just straightforward rather than unfriendly. They were checking in lots of campers throughout the day, so we didn't expect a long conversation or an especially warm welcome, and we had no issues with them. Overall, I'd definitely recommend Rowter Farm if you're looking for a simple, basic campsite in an amazing location. If your priority is being close to some of the Peak District's most popular walks and attractions, it's a great place to stay.
