About Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa

Grosvenor Pulford sits on the Wrexham Road at Pulford, about five miles south of Chester on the Welsh border and a short drive from the Eaton estate. It is a large independent hotel rather than a chain property, family-owned and steadily extended over the years, and it has built its reputation on the scale and quality of its leisure facilities rather than on the age of the building.

Seventy-five bedrooms range from standard doubles to suites, and the newer rooms are notably generous, with separate seating areas and large bathrooms. Decoration is comfortable and traditional rather than fashionable. Because the hotel is spread out at ground and first-floor level around courtyards and gardens, it is worth asking for a room away from the function suites if a wedding is running, as it is a popular venue.

The Spa by Kasia is the centrepiece: a substantial complex with a pool, thermal suite, hydrotherapy facilities and a long treatment menu, and day packages are sold to non-residents as well as guests. Dining is at Palm Court, which holds an AA rosette for modern British and European cooking, with Nelson's Bar for something lighter, afternoon tea in the lounge and a Sunday carvery that fills up with locals.

The location suits drivers. Chester is ten to fifteen minutes north, Wrexham a similar distance south, and the A55 gives quick access to the North Wales coast, so it makes a practical base for touring both sides of the border. Parking is free and extensive. Those without a car will need taxis for every trip into the city, which is the main trade-off against the lower rates and the facilities.

Probably one of the best hotel and spa stays I have EVER experienced! I have ZERO negative comments for this hotel and spa location aside from wanting to just basically live there! The welcome from the staff in all areas, the chandelier reception, the high end restaurant bar and restaurant, the suite! The spa, the zen garden, the surrounding gardens and pond, the lot was so so done to perfection! I genuinely felt like my partner and I (plus pooch) were treated like royalty! The room was massive, immaculate and had EVERYTHING we needed for our stay and more! Even the cute welcome pack for our pooch! Everything was catered for! We had food at the restaurant there, and it was simply Michelin standard! The service, the welcome, the atmosphere, all perfect! We had a beautiful time in the zen garden, the wildlife, the birds, the plants, trees and bushes and everything was stunning and breathtaking! I will be saving up to get back there real soon! If you have any doubt, forget that, go book! You won’t regret it! Xxx

Beautiful hotel and grounds with wonderfully friendly and also dog friendly staff - from hotel reception on through to restaurant and bar staff; we couldn’t fault them. We stayed a couple nights on a dog package visiting family in Chester. Our room was on the ground floor, perfect for getting in and out with the dog. We also had safe, private access to a little garden for early morning doggy wees. The dog bowls and dog bed were very much appreciated. Breakfast (for the humans) was a real treat. Great Full English. Even though we couldn’t sit in the main restaurant (if like us your dog can’t bear to be parted from you!) Nelson’s bar was fine.

Really enjoyed my stay. Ate in Nelson’s Bar, service was great and the food was delicious. Had a manicure at the spa by Danni who was lovely and did a great job. Thought the rooms were cozy and had everything you need. Stayed during the heatwave so appreciated aircon which kept the room really chilled. Would stay again.

A lovely hotel with a mix of original and contemporary decor, it is refreshingly original. The reception staff are friendly and extremely helpful. Our room was spacious and well equipped with everything that we needed for a comfortable stay. Guests have free use of the spa which is a nice bonus and adds value to your stay. Unfortunately, we had a terrible dining experience in Nelson’s Bar at the hotel (see separate review) but the overall stay at the Grosvenor Pulford was so good that I cannot mark them down for that. Breakfast, however, was very good.

Guests mention this hotel offers spacious, spotless rooms with comfortable beds and excellent air conditioning, along with a well-equipped spa and pool area. They also highlight the delicious food, especially the Sunday carvery and buffet breakfast, and the attentive, friendly staff who provide great service. Visitors appreciate the beautiful grounds and the relaxing atmosphere, often enhanced by a pianist in the Palm Court restaurant.
