Photo: West Mersea Holiday Park

West Mersea Park is a ground-floor lodge sleeping four on Mersea Island, where the beach—famous for its coloured huts—lies just a short walk away. The open-plan living space combines kitchen, dining and sitting areas with direct access to a wraparound verandah; one bedroom has an ensuite with bath, the other has two singles served by a separate shower room. The kitchen is equipped for proper cooking, with electric oven, gas hob, microwave and air fryer, while a smart TV, comfortable seating and outdoor furniture on the verandah give you places to relax. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are all included; there is parking for one car on site, and one pet stays free of charge.

Mersea Island itself centres on seafood, oysters and sailing, though the quieter appeal matters as much as the activity. Cudmore Grove Country Park at East Mersea draws walkers and cyclists. The village has tea rooms, pubs and restaurants alongside a bakery and butcher, and the on-site holiday park includes a café, bar with food, and small seasonal shop. Colchester's historic centre is twenty minutes' drive away. No smoking is permitted inside the property.

I wanted to try somewhere different so, I booked this site. It is a nice clean site, predominantly full of statics but, has an area for tourers. Great location, stones throw from the beach and a lovely view of the beach huts. Toilets and showers were a bit dated however, it all works well. If you are considering swimming in the sea, best go when it's high tide. Touring pitches are serviced so, easy filling up water. Word of warning, irs a shell and pebble beach so, would recommend some beach or wet shoes. I would definitely go back, good value for money.

We have been a couple of times now on the touring park the park itself is fine Paul & his family in the clubhouse are lovely & couldn’t do more for you however the toilets & showers should be condemned they are by far the worst we have ever encountered & are filthy hot water is a bonus. We have been met by both occasions in reception by this most miserable & unhelpful & actually very rude older women who clearly hates her job doesn’t make you welcome whatsoever.

Lovely touring park, surprisingly they have quite limited touring spaces, and the park is predominantly static caravans. Great location and great little pub/restaurant. Touring toilets/showers are slightly dated but OK

The park is lovely, clubhouse Sandbanks really friendly, drinks we felt were expensive..can't comment on the food as didn't eat there. Shower block too far away and not at all clean. Today a lady had her 2 dogs in the shower with her. Site states no twin axle caravans however we saw at least 5 or 6 come and go. I mentioned it in the office when leaving and was told, probably seasonal no as they were coming in and out. My sister wanted to join us but couldn't I mentioned this only to be told we'll if the site didn't know they have a twin axle when they arrive not a lot can be done. Make your mind up, I suspect it's what suits at the time

People say this holiday park offers excellent static caravans and a lovely touring park with serviced pitches. Guests also highlight the beautiful, peaceful surroundings, good value, and a great on-site pub/restaurant.

Some reviews mention the toilets and showers can be poorly maintained.
