About Mynydd Derwydd Wild Camping

Looking for an outdoor break that's all about mountain views, sunsets and starry night skies? Mynydd Derwydd Wild Camping near Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr delivers exactly that. With three camping areas scattered over 250 acres of hill farm bordering the vast Clocaenog Forest, you'll likely have the place to yourselves – proper wild camping with minimal facilities: eco toilets, firepits and firewood for sale, but no electricity or running water at your pitch. Come prepared with torches and drinking water, and note that pitches require a four-wheel-drive vehicle (though there's secure parking and a wheelbarrow or sherpa service for those without).

The remote location means you'll want to stock up in Ruthin (15 minutes away), but do save room for the 24/7 honesty box stocked with farm-fresh eggs, rapeseed oil and homemade cakes. It's a gloriously wild setup, though some guests note the access restrictions and basic facilities won't suit everyone. Mountain biking, climbing and watersports are all nearby, while the forest itself offers endless walking through spectacular, peaceful countryside.

Stayed for one night while passing through, will definitely be back for a longer stay. Dafydd was very friendly and more than helpful, showed us round and let me hold one of his baby goats. The views were unbelievable, overlooking Anglesey, the ocean and mountain ranges in the distance. Perfect place to watch the sunset. Toilet was clean, as long as you come prepared it’s an amazing place to stay

As a family of four we loved it! We will be back in next few weeks for sure. 2 children age 15 and 7 and they enjoyed it so much.. especially little Socks the cheeky little goat and his friends. We got to have a fire under a clear star lit sky and enjoying the views of the sea on one side mountains on the other in the morning. It was a perfect end to our first camping trip to Wales! Thank you again and see you soon x
