A fantastic experience and a "must-do" when visiting Northumberland! We recently took a ride on the steam train and it was the highlight of our trip. 🚂 The 4-mile return journey between Heatherslaw and Etal is absolutely stunning, offering beautiful views of the River Till and the local countryside. The locomotives are well-maintained and the staff/volunteers are incredibly friendly and passionate. It’s also heartening to see the history of the place; there’s a plaque showing how the community came together during the 2020 pandemic to save this heritage gem. It’s clear this railway is well-loved. After the ride, make sure to check out the traditional water mill and the local cafe. Perfect for families, train enthusiasts, or anyone looking for a relaxing afternoon in a historic setting!

Marvellous value for money, 25 mins each way. Parking at Heatherslawe, easy disability access and special carriages for the less able. Very enjoyable.

Absolutely brilliant, a narrow gauge steam railway, what's not to love. We didn't go onto the train as it was just about to do it's last run of the day. I so wish we had a bit more time there, the steam train was gorgeous. Went live on facetime to our 2 year old train daft grandson, his wonderment didn't disappoint. Be sure to cross the bridge over to the mill as it's a very informative working mill. Plenty to see and do there.

Lovely afternoon visit on Monday. We parked at Heatherslaw station car park and walked to Etal. Its about 20min walk. We spent sometime in Etal before getting the light railway back to Heatherslaw. Well worth a visit. Staff were very friendley and helpful
