For a blissfully peaceful Cornish break, Kerthen Gar Campsite Retreat – conveniently positioned as the gateway to west Cornwall, yet equally handy for the Lizard Peninsula – might just tick all the boxes. This adults-only site stretches across eight acres of splendid countryside dotted with native trees and wildflower meadows, just off the B3280 a 10-minute drive from Hayle. With fewer than 10 pitches, privacy and space come as standard, while the no-children, no-dogs, no-amplified-music policy ensures genuine tranquillity. There's even a polite request for guests to be on site by 10pm – so no stumbling back from the pubs in Goldsithney after closing time.
Instead, settle down early to tend the campfire, stargaze or spot local wildlife including foxes, rabbits and red kites. By day, footpaths and bridleways link the site to the River Hayle (30 minutes on foot), Godolphin Hill and Tregonning Hill. Spectacular beaches like Gwithian, Hendra and Praa Sands lie within 15 minutes' drive, along with the South West Coast Path.

Had the most wonderful and peaceful stay. Exactly what I needed. No distractions, just nature with the most serene sounds. Great communication with the family owners. Available with answers to any questions which was fab. Such a beautiful site with many areas to explore. I could see a lot of love and passion has been put into building this space. Facilities are so beautiful and well maintained. Walking around seeing the animals that live within the land and surrounding areas coming out to say hello. The site is in between the north and south coastlines which is ideal for exploring the local area. Highly recommend! Thank you for making such a beautiful space 😊

As a previous comment has mentioned, this is a dream come to fruition for Sam, the owner. We were lucky enough to stay on the site for a short stay and will definitely be back. We were warmly greeted by Sam and given the grand tour of the site, and there is a lot to see. The various fields, the toilet and shower block, the orchard and veg field (still a work in progress) and the wildlife pond, also a work in progress, and the social/ BBQ area. What marks this site as a must visit, is the quality of what's on offer. The toilet and showers have been done to an extremely high standard and the water is hot and plentiful, no buying extra tokens here. The pitches are generous and surrounded by the most wonderful mix of native trees and shrubs. There are uncultivated areas for wildlife and the sense of peace and calm is beyond measure. As mentioned, Sam has a very clear idea of what he wants this 8 acre site to be and, for us, he has delivered an absolute gem in west Cornwall.

We had a wonderful two nights at Kerthen Gar, which is an absolutely stunning setting. I felt so relaxed, which is quite unusual for me but all thanks to the beautiful site which induced feelings of calm and peace. Excellent quality and comfortable facilities (wcs, showers). Sam has exciting plans for the site (swimming pond!) and we would love to return to see how it develops.

So pleased we found this gem of a campsite, everyone thought we were mad going down to Cornwall on the first weekend of school summer holidays but we found pure, (child and dog free!) peace and quiet at Kerthen Gar. We really got to relax away from the hustle and bustle of it all, and loved seeing so much wildlife - bats, rabbits, birds of prey and tons of amazing insects. The facilities were new, clean and tidy, the owners were really friendly. Will definitely be back!
