Maker Camping

Used to be a much more welcoming and enjoyable campsite which felt like a natural escape in a beautiful location. These days it feels like the owners are taking every opportunity to take more money from the customer while the actual experience of staying here isn't as enjoyable. Too many rules and unfriendly staff.

A fantastic camping site in a spectacle location with great food and art businesses on the same site. Beautiful panoramic views across the Rame Peninsula and the Plymouth sound. A 20 minute walk down to Kingsand and Cawsand beaches (harder work going back up with tired kids). The facilities are well maintained (there were staff members cleaning the loos at 6am and still topping up supplies of loo roll at midnight). There is a common room with sofas, lots of charging sockets, some books and board games as well as lots of sinks for washing up. The showers were actually verging on being too hot which seems a strange thing to complain about for a campsite. Great for adults once you got used to them but a couple of degrees cooler would have been good for kids. We've been here for the last 4 years and will keep coming back. It was as busy as we've seen it this year with some very large groups of families but everyone is respectful and friendly. Easy access to lots of great businesses on the same site. The Canteen does great breakfasts and lunches. Everyone loved their cream teas. The Garrison cocktail bar was great fun on Saturday night with live music.

very disappointed, visited earlier this week. camp site was over filled. The pitches numbered but had two/three groups on each pitch. We were given an area with no gap with neigbour both sides and drive route right on us. We were supposed to stay two nights but left after first. This is not as it is advertised. Would not recommend. Kitchen/common room smelt musky, Not allowed fires/bbq but then people did have them. Not enough showers for the number of people. I like rustic camping but this was awful. I gave two stars as 360 view was great but why over book guests?

I've spent many times at Maker over the last decade. My latest 2 night stay was our 3 year old daughters first ever camping experience and we all had the most wonderful time! She tells everyone how much she loves camping and is now constantly asking to go all the time. She spends a lot of her time building tents with blankets and chairs, it's very sweet. The shower and toilet facilities were always clean and could be accessed at anytime during our stay. There is a dish washing and chill out area with sofas, a large table and communal fridge/freezers. At the check-in point there is an extensive list of items you can purchase should you need to. Various food and drink venues to choose from, nearby beach and town which can be accessed by foot or the bus which stops right outside camp. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful, especially when we accidentally attempted to set up camp in a reserved spot. While me and my daughter went off exploring, a staff member helped my partner move our tent across to a vacant pitch. The staff at an on site food truck kindly set out a blanket for my daughter under the light structure and lent her a bubble wand to play with which was one of her highlights of our trip. The best part of Maker is definitely the place itself, wild camping without the wilderness. There were so many bugs and beasties due to the wild nature of the place. We enjoyed watching the bees, caterpillars, birds and butterflies. My favourite part of our first night was listening to all the crickets in the tall grass. The view out onto the Plymouth sound and beyond is stunning! We will definitely be back again very soon!
