About Railholiday Carriages
Tucked into the South East Cornish countryside near St Germans, Railholiday Carriages offers something genuinely different: converted railway carriages that sleep families in quirky, heritage-steeped comfort. Each carriage is kitted out with proper beds, heating and its own character, while the site itself is relaxed and thoroughly dog-friendly—your four-legged friend is as welcome as you are. WiFi keeps you connected, and with showers, loos and drinking water all on hand, it's more civilised than a typical campsite.
The location puts you within easy reach of Whitsand Bay's beaches and the medieval ruins of Trematon Castle, yet the village of St Germans retains a peaceful, off-the-beaten-track feel. Open all year, it's a solid, unpretentious base whether you're chasing coastal walks or simply after a countryside escape with the kids and the dog in tow.

What visitors say
2 of us stayed in the Old Luggage Van for 3 nights after seeing it from the train window on a Paddington to Penzance journey. The site forms part of St Germans old train station & comprises of 4 restored traditional railway carriages with 2 more being currently renovated. The hosts, Dave & Lizzy are so lovely & approachable should you need anything. Nice touches like fresh meadow flowers & the welcome hamper along with a guided tour of the other carriages being renovated were greatly appreciated. The carriage itself is compact but very comfortable, perfect for cosy rainy evening with the woodburner on. The bed is very comfy, the shower is lovely & hot & there are suitable amenities to prepare meals for a couple. 10 minutes stroll away down the hill there is a small local shop that stocks most things & a pub that serves a varied menu, the beef Sunday roast was very nice indeed. The trains that pass by on the main line are frequent in the day & are a trainspotters paradise however they become less frequent in the evening & there aren't any at night to disturb your slumber. It’s quite incredible what has been achieved here with clearly a lot of love , time & hard work. We hope to return soon

A wheelchair user, a 5 yr old and an adult want to have a break, where do you go? Here. I cannot recommend Railholiday enough. It’s clean, cozy, quiet - the train line is active but doesn’t make too much noise. Milpool carriage is great from the entrance into the carriage to the wet room. Lovely complimentary gifts on arrival. Oh the sounds, enhanced by a very friendly robin! A week during the hottest May and it was lovely and comfortable. It is only 30 minutes away from the Eden Project, Plymouth and other places. Would not hesitate to recommend and shall be going back in the future. Thank you to Dave and Lizzy

We stayed at the Old Luggage Van to visit friends in St German's. The OLV is beautifully renovated in keeping with it's origins. Cosy with all the conveniences provided, yet keeping its charm. Plenty of walks around and if you want to treat yourself to breakfast, The Stables @ Port Eliot are a 10 minute walk away. Will definitely return.
