Harbour View House

Photo: Harbour View House

This stone-built cottage stands on the edge of Bodmin Moor, a few miles inland from the Saint Ives coast. The building has character typical of rural Cornwall—thick walls, wooden floors throughout, and underfloor heating that works well in winter. Three bedrooms and three bathrooms mean six guests can spread out comfortably; one bedroom has a double bed with ensuite wet room, two have twin beds with their own shower rooms. The main living space is open-plan, with lounge and dining areas flowing together, and the kitchen is equipped for proper cooking—double oven, dishwasher, microwave, and a washer-dryer included.

Outside there is an eating area with seating for six and secure storage for bicycles. Two cars can park on site. The location suits people who want to walk or cycle straight onto the Moor, or who prefer countryside quiet over being in a busy seaside town; beaches are roughly twenty minutes' drive away. A pub lies within a mile. Electricity, bed linen and towels are provided. The property is non-smoking.

Book here if you want to stay in an ok room but still pricey for the quality. This hotel does the trick for having a decent place to sleep in an average hotel room. The biggest let down was the amount and size of towels provided. I was given a large hand towel to shower with and no separate towel to use after washing hands in the bathroom. The staff were nice though and I was able to store my bag after my stay. The view from the room was also nice but the window was terribly dirty.

For the past five years, every time I visit St Ives, I make a point of dining at the restaurant at Harbour View House. I’m from São Paulo, Brazil, and this place has become a tradition for me. It’s amazing how the food keeps getting better every single year. This year I even took home a souvenir I bought a Harbour View House T-shirt! Everything here is exceptional: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and don’t even get me started on the cocktails. The views are breathtaking, and the atmosphere has a unique charm that makes every meal feel special. This time I brought some friends with me, and they were all amazednot only by the incredible food but also by the outstanding service. The staff are always smiling, friendly, and genuinely happy, which makes the whole experience even more memorable. I haven’t had the chance to stay at Harbour View House yet, but it’s definitely at the top of my list for my next visit.

Table of 11- no menus. We waited more than 90 minutes for food and the staff served every table before us. We were allocated staff on their first night/ bad service. Food was not worth waiting for nor the service charge. We booked for 6 pm and were promised 7:30 finish as we had a 2:30 am departure for a flight. We sat and watched table after table orders being made before our 6 pm orders. There was no apology and one of our guests walked out furious. Really, really, really poor- we left the restaurant at 8:40. And the staff still charged us extra by claiming our guests had not paid and of course they had. Disappointing all round and average food was not worth waiting for.

What a fabulous place to stay in St Ives! The welcome was great; we could park our California campervan on site (£6) before going for a stroll around the town. On return, our bags had been taken up to our room (4) which was spotless and comfortable. The view from the windows are unsurpassed; right over the town and harbour. Great cocktails during happy hour (4-6pm), then an outstanding meal from a small but interesting menu. Breakfast (included in the room price) was equally delicious. A superb visit in every respect. Thoroughly recommended. Thank you
