Newquay Ocean Heights

Photo: David Hutchings

Newquay sits on Cornwall's north coast as a working seaside town with golden beaches, surf breaks, and the Southwest Coast Path running through it. The area pulls families, surfers, and walkers year-round. Newquay Ocean Heights is a three-bedroom property sleeping six, positioned within easy reach of the beaches and town centre, making it a practical base for exploring what's on offer.

The layout spreads across two floors. Ground floor: a king bedroom with ensuite, two singles with ensuite, a separate bathroom with bath and double shower, plus a separate toilet. Upstairs: open-plan living and dining space, a kitchen fitted with electric oven, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and coffee maker, a double bedroom with ensuite, and direct access to a private courtyard with outdoor seating. Three ensuite bathrooms and one family bathroom mean no queuing. Electricity, wi-fi, bed linen and towels are included. One car can park on site. A highchair and stairgate are available, and the property is non-smoking.

The beaches nearest the property—Tolcarne among them—are walkable. Families use these for rock pools and calm swimming; surfers head elsewhere on the coast. The Southwest Coast Path offers cliff walks with views over the shoreline.

We stayed at Number 5 booked through Sykes cottages and the first couple of days wasn't too bad. Then we were inundated with hundreds of flies everyday every morning. The smell was bad. It's like something like a rat had died under the floors. I can see from old reviews there was a problem a few years ago. The hoise keeper didn't do anything to help. Sykes cottages didn't do anything to help or give us any money back. It was like a horror hoise. DO NOT STAY HERE! They keep deleting our comments. See photos.

I booked 9 Ocean Heights last week to stay this Fri. Owner sent me a message the day after that the property was not available and owner blamed the Sykes Property mgmt. Regardless of what the issue, as a customer, I shouldn't have to go through all the stress to keep calling just to get my money back esp when the reservation is non-ref. Disorganisation cost awful experience to customers regardless who is at fault ( owner or property mgmt). I would not recommend this place at all. Awful experience and you are wise to stay away from it. With the current situation, pandemic, you are better off booking a property where you can get hold of the owner directly to verify availability than through property management, too many areas that could go wrong. But then again, if they truly care about their customers and serious about their business this would have not happened to begin with.
