The Orchard Hill House

The Orchard Hill House is a three-bedroom property on the Cornish Riviera, positioned above Malpas with views across the creek towards the marina. Truro's centre and cathedral lie ten minutes' drive away. You get one double bedroom, one twin that converts to a double with direct access to a sunny deck, and one single; one family bathroom upstairs and a second WC downstairs means five guests can stay comfortably. The main living space is a generous lounge facing the water, with a wood-burning stove, sofas and a window seat where binoculars sit ready. A dining room with an antique character runs through, and the kitchen is fully fitted with everything needed to cook—oven, hob, dishwasher, washing machine, a large fridge-freezer and microwave included.

Outside is where the property distinguishes itself. A private tiered garden drops down from the house with a hot tub for five, a new outdoor shower, and multiple spots to sit. Higher up, a lawn and patio set for six open onto views of boats passing below; there's a BBQ and a front paved garden with more seating. A garage holds one car and an untethered 7 kW EV charger; a medium car fits on the drive. Two kayaks are available for guests. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included. The Heron Inn stands a minute away, with a marina, farm shop and tearoom also nearby. Boats regularly tour from the marina to Falmouth and St Mawes; Trelissick Gardens and the King Harry Ferry lie within reach. One dog is welcome. Smoking is not permitted.

We had a great week here as a group of eight friends. The house is in a fantastic location, very spacious, with lovely modern bathrooms and excellent towels. The welcome treat of scones, jam, and clotted cream was a really thoughtful touch – thank you! Faye and Mike are very welcoming - Communication was great and a maintenance issue was sorted quickly, which we really appreciated. A few small points: the double beds are quite small for non-couples to share, and some of the pans need replacing as they’re quite worn. Overall, a lovely stay in a great house – we'd be happy to return!
