About The Nare Hotel
The Nare stands on its own above Carne Beach on the Roseland Peninsula, with nothing between the lawns and the sand but a short path through the gardens. It is a country house hotel that happens to be by the sea, and it is run in a fairly traditional way: proper afternoon tea, newspapers in the drawing room, staff who remember returning guests. The hotel has been in the same family ownership for decades and the continuity shows.
There are 40 bedrooms and suites, split broadly between sea-view and country-view. Sea-view suites are the ones to book if the budget allows, with sitting areas and balconies looking straight out over Gerrans Bay. Country-view rooms face the gardens and the fields behind and are noticeably cheaper. Rooms are furnished in a comfortable, slightly old-fashioned style with antiques, fresh flowers and no attempt at minimalism. Family rooms, interconnecting options and accessible ground-floor rooms are all part of the mix.
Facilities are unusually broad for a hotel of this size. There is an indoor pool and a heated outdoor pool, a sea-view hot tub, the Carne Bay Spa, a gym, a tennis court, a croquet lawn and a billiard room. The hotel keeps its own boats, including a Cornish crabber and a motor launch, which guests can take out with a skipper. Dining is split between the formal Dining Room, with a longstanding daily-changing menu, and the more relaxed Quarterdeck restaurant with its terrace.
The Nare works well for families in the school holidays and for older couples the rest of the year. It suits anyone who wants a full-service hotel with things to do on site, rather than a room and a recommendation for somewhere in the village. The South West Coast Path runs past the grounds, and Veryan, Portloe and St Mawes are all within a short drive.

What guests say
Came here for tea and coffee at the end of a few long walks. The staff were so nice we booked a table in the main restaurant the next night. The food and service were excellent. I have no hesitation recommending this hotel.

We stayed here for two nights while traveling the coast of Cornwall. The service was superior- in fact, difficult to think of better service in any hotel that we’ve ever stayed within globally. Highly recommend the formal dining every night during your stay- it was incredible, worth every penny. Our bedroom had a beautiful ocean view and was very quiet. It’s an older hotel but traditionally and tastefully decorated. The concierge was very helpful to book our tickets and plan our days for us. This is the best hotel in Cornwall to visit. Thank you!

We asked if the Public were allowed in the bar. We were told yes on the quarterdeck outside. A lovely spot. However, their snobbish attitude in completely ignoring us serving those staying annoyed us no end. This hotel definitely needs taking down a peg or two. Utterly arrogant & rather disingenuous.

Always an absolute pleasure to visit the Nare! Today was no exception. We dropped in for a cream tea. Perfect from the moment we were met by a delightful young lady who was very welcoming and brought us our tea. The scones were delicious, warm and held the jam and cream beautifully and we washed them down with a pot of peppermint tea! We will be back again very soon!
