About The Shepherds Hut Retreat
The Shepherds Hut Retreat, just outside Fordscroft near Crewkerne, offers a surprisingly polished escape for couples seeking peace within reach of the Dorset AONB and coast. Each shepherd's hut comes with its own ensuite facilities—a genuine luxury at this scale—and the adult-only policy keeps things tranquil. WiFi's available, and the site stays open year-round, making it viable for off-season breaks when the Somerset countryside shows a quieter side.
The quality of the huts themselves sets this place apart, though it's worth noting pets aren't permitted, which might disappoint some. With showers, drinking water, and toilets all thoughtfully provided, it's a well-equipped base for exploring the area's market towns and coastal stretches without sacrificing comfort at day's end.

What visitors say
What an amazing Experience. I booked this as a post wedding weekend away for a chance to to relax, unwind and just take some time out of what has been and will continue to be a busy life, and nothing disappointed - only exceeded in our expectations. The weather (rain - although there was some sun) actually doesn't take away from the experience either. We bedded ourselves in, lit the outside bath, lit the fire pit, lit the bbq and enjoyed the serenity! The frequent visitors from the family of ducks and secret squirrel only added to the experience. The hut itself was beautifully kitted out in high end furniture, bed size more than ample, hot running water never an issue and all the different sizes of glass you could need depending on your tipple. All in all, it felt a little like Thailand, in Devon - not just from the serenity, but also the breathtaking scenery. For 48 hours, we were in our much needed little bubble. Highly recommend to anyone and we ourselves will be for sure going back.

Just had a lovely 2-night stay in Shepherd's Rest. A number of the other huts were unoccupied, so it felt particularly private. The heating in the hut was great for the cold weather and it was snug and cosy inside listening to the wind and rain. The hot tub was certainly welcome and it was nice to be warm whilst being outside. The only thing I would have appreciated was some cooking oil, but Waitrose in Crewkerne was only a short drive away and the owners had thought of everything else.

Cannot recommend this lovely retreat enough. Special location, with an intimate wood fired hot tub over looking a lake with friendly ducks. Gorgeous garden with bbq and fire pit and nice details such as marshmallows for the fire, luxury toiletries and bedding. Perfect for a romantic break with lots to do in the surrounding area. Thank you! We will return.

Me and my husband stayed in the Shepherds Parlour from 29th Aug - 1st Sept. We’ve stayed in a couple of shepherds huts before but this was by far the nicest! 😊 The surrounding area is so peaceful and the views of the lake are beautiful. Every day we were greeted by ducks, one in particular that we grew quite fond of. Our guest book had a list of names that previous guests had called the ducks, so we added her in, we called her Denise! 🦆 The hot tub was lovely, easy to use and we spent a lot in hours in it over the weekend. It was lovely to be in it late at night listening to the wildlife. We also used the sauna twice which was very peaceful. The inside of the hut itself was done so well. Really cosy, lovely decor and equipped with everything you need. Took a little stroll to the local pub in Hinton St George on Sunday and had a delicious roast dinner - would definitely recommend the food. The owners were so great answering any questions we had via message and dropped off a few more logs for the hot tub when requested. Overall we really loved our stay and have already recommended it to friends and family. We will definitely look to return again in the future.
