Birkerthwaite Barn
Cumberland
Birkerthwaite Barn suits couples looking for a rural getaway, and one dog is welcome at no extra cost. The conversion occupies a former 17th-century farmstead set at the end of an unmade track, surrounded by moorland and farmland with views toward Scafell and the Eskdale Valley. You have the whole property to yourself, with parking for one car on site.
The barn contains a double bedroom with a four-poster bed on the first floor, reached via a galleried landing. Downstairs, an open-plan kitchen and dining room has a full cooker, microwave and washing machine; the sitting room has an open fire (initial fuel included). Bathroom facilities include a corner bath and separate shower cubicle. Electricity, bed linen and wifi are provided. The barn has an enclosed garden with seating and furniture for outdoor time. No smoking throughout.
Walking is the main draw here—the elevated position and surrounding countryside make this genuine fell-walking terrain. Wast Water lies a short drive away, and the Langdale Pikes and Lake Windermere are accessible over the Hard Knott and Wrynose Passes. Ravenglass steam railway, Muncaster Castle and Hardknott Roman Fort are also nearby. The nearest shop is 3 miles away; a pub 2½ miles.
