About Moss Thorn Farm Certificated Location

Broughton-in-Furness sits at the southern edge of the Lake District, a quiet market town where the fells start to rise inland. Moss Thorn Farm Certificated Location sits on working farmland just outside the town, offering something different from standard camping: alongside conventional pitches, guests can stay in converted railway carriages. The farm keeps animals on site, which guests tend to enjoy, and the whole setup trades on a peaceful, working-farm atmosphere rather than the usual campsite buzz.

Pitches are spacious, and facilities include hot showers and washing-up areas, kept to a high standard. Staff are hands-on and friendly. The site holds a Certificated Location status, which limits numbers and reinforces the quieter feel. A disused railway line runs nearby, providing an easy walking route to the neighbouring villages. The views across the farmland open up toward the hills, and it is the kind of place where you are more likely to wake to birdsong and farm noise than anything else.

Lovely place to camp. Plenty of space, really cute & well maintained. There isn't electric however there is a room you can plug chargers etc in for free. Basic shower area but clean. Lovely feel throughout the site with animals roaming free (ducks, hens, sheep & goats) Lovely walk into Broughton in Furness just over a mile where there is a petrol station, couple of grocery shops, 3 pubs & a cafe. Have stayed here twice and would definitely stay again.

Great campsite, old railroad carriages available too. We have camped here and stayed in the carriages. Fantastic location to explore the South Western area of the lake district. The welfare facilities are not as polished as some places we have stayed but they are more than adequate and clean. Fantastic hosts all very friendly and helpful. The village of broughton in furness is only a 30min walk down the old railway line which has some amazing pubs and shops.

The rooms are really good except the metal bed was very very squeaky very very squeaky!! but we had such a good time and it was so cozy plenty of room in there and I love the farm dogs coming to greet us and staying with us for a little while which was so nice! •The location is okay but it is 40 minutes away from the popular areas Make sure you bring a lighter, chargers with you!!!

Couldn’t have enjoyed my stay at Moss Side enough. Louise is incredibly friendly and offered us some recommendations to explore around the local area. The facilities were everything we needed - plenty of space in the field, hot showers, a place to do washing up. We also absolutely fell in love with some of the farm dogs. Would recommend and will definitely visit again.
