About Aldridge Mill - Wild Camping

Tucked into a sheltered Devon valley between Oakford and Stoodleigh, Aldridge Mill offers proper wild camping bordered by a babbling mill stream and ancient broadleaf woodland. The site is deliberately basic – just a double compost loo, well water for drinking, and a central firepit (plus permission for your own small fires in previous burn spots) – but that's entirely the point. Pebbly stream beaches invite natural bathing, kids have an adventure playground, and woodland paths harbour deer and endless wild swimming spots.

Well-seasoned firewood is available on site, while Bampton (15 minutes' drive) covers provisions via butchers, bakers and local produce stores. For larger groups craving even deeper seclusion, the owners can point you toward wilder pitches downstream or further into the forest. Note the access lanes are narrow and winding – unsuitable for very large vehicles or caravans – and you'll need to take all rubbish home. Two village pubs nearby provide a welcome pint after a day exploring this heavily wooded, waterway-laced valley.

For me this is the perfect campsite. No pitches, park where you like. Which will be nice and quiet by a stream. No hassle from anyone, peace and perfection. Light a fire if you wish, or just sit by the stream and take it all in. Years and years camping and this is just perfect.

Had a lovely few days stay here in the yurt was me a friend and our four children . The welcome was lovely and felt everything was explained. The kids loved the yurt and it felt quite magical ! It was quite a steep walk down to the stream and my friend has poor mobility but was able to take the car down . We spent hours and hours in the woodland and streams perfect paddling for the kids .. ideal for dogs too . Only thing I would suggest is although long grass makes it all more natural and is great for wildlife etc it would have been nice to just have a small mowed area or livestock to have eaten an area down so the kids could have played games outside of the yurt . Toilet was clean.. we had everything we needed and kids were gutted to leave . Thank you again x

I've had the most incredible stay at "The Yurt." This quirky, self sustainable off grid yurt has been a little slice of heaven. I've felt welcome, comfortable, cosy, and thoroughly enjoyed the exquisite scenery and serene quiet. This is a perfect escape from reality. Anyone looking to get back to nature and to live life at a slower pace. This yurt is perfect for just that, with incredible home comforts. Thank you, Aldridge Mill, for an impeccable stay. I look forward to coming back soon.
