Bridge Farm - The Old Engine House
Dorset
View on Google MapsWest Dorset's quiet villages and rolling countryside put this converted barn within easy reach of the Jurassic Coast, yet far enough inland for genuine peace. Bridge Farm – The Old Engine House sits on a working beef farm where the owners are neighbours rather than distant managers, giving the place a lived-in feel without intrusion. An enclosed garden with patio and lawn provides outdoor space, and there is parking for three cars on site.
Inside, the layout spreads across two floors: a ground-floor living room and kitchen/dining room where you can cook properly, plus a separate toilet and utility room with washing machine. Upstairs are three bedrooms – a kingsize with ensuite shower, two singles, and a three-quarter double – along with a family bathroom. Beds are made up, towels are provided, and wifi keeps you connected. Electric heating and cooking mean no fiddling with unfamiliar systems. One well-behaved dog stays free, and there is a fenced stream 50 yards from the house if that matters to yours.
The location works for varied holidays. Fossil hunters and beach days are ten miles away at Lyme Regis, Charmouth and West Bay. Walkers and cyclists find miles of country paths; The Royal Oak at Drimpton is 200 yards down the lane. Forde Abbey and Gardens, a craft centre, and further afield the Fleet Air Arm Museum and motor museums are all drivable. Families with children appreciate both the enclosed garden and the working farm setting, though the stairgate suggests the owners think about younger guests.
