Millstones

Dorset

Millstones occupies the upper floor of a Grade II listed watermill, built 250 years ago when it still ground flour. The building sits 300 yards inland from the sea on Dorset's Jurassic Coast, with views across the water and direct access to one of England's most distinctive stretches of shoreline. Converted into holiday accommodation, it retains the character of its industrial past while offering modern comfort for two guests.

The single bedroom holds a 4ft 6in double bed and an ensuite bathroom with bath, shower and heated towel rail. Downstairs, an open-plan living and dining room overlooks the raised decking through large windows; the kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, with electric oven, hob, dishwasher, microwave and washing machine. Freeview television, DVD player and Bluetooth speaker are provided. Wifi, electricity, bed linen and towels are included. A single parking space sits on site, and smoking is not permitted.

The location suits walkers and fossil hunters in particular. Golden Cap offers panoramic views of Lyme Bay from its summit. West Bay's sandy beach and harbour lie nearby, as does the start of Chesil Beach. Mapperton Gardens, Forde Abbey and Abbotsbury Swannery are all within a short drive. A pub stands 300 yards away; shops are a mile distant.
