Riverside Cottage

Dumfries and Galloway

Photo: Riverside Cottage

Lockerbie sits in rolling Dumfries and Galloway countryside where the River Dryfe winds through small rural villages. Riverside Cottage occupies a converted 1880s bothy on the riverbank near Boreland, a few miles north of town. The whole property is yours alone, with two bedrooms, one bathroom, and space for four guests across a single ground floor.

Large windows flood the open-plan living area with natural light. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking—electric oven, hob, dishwasher and microwave included—while the sitting room has a woodburner, smart TV and DVD player. One bedroom has a king bed, the other two singles; the shower room includes a walk-in enclosure and heated rail. Essentials like electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are covered; logs for the burner cost £5 per basket beyond the initial supply. Private parking fits two cars, and a bike store is on site.

The setting suits walkers and cyclists. Trails start from the cottage itself, and the Annandale Way is nearby. Four of the 7Stanes mountain biking centres are within reach. Over the river sits the Chariots of Fire Driving Centre, offering riding lessons and carriage driving for all abilities. The cottage does have an unfenced riverbank five yards away; guests should be aware of this. No smoking or vaping.

Fantastic property in a perfect location, I had an amazingly peaceful week here, and if I'm in the area again, will definitely book again. Spacious, comfortable and peaceful, ideal if you want a peaceful getaway.

We have just had a great week up in Dumfriesshire and we stayed at Riverside Cottage. It's far enough away from everything that you can enjoy the peace and watch the birds, but quick to get to Lockerbie and onto the motorway if you're wanting to explore a lot. Having said that we didn't really go further than half an hour or so from the cottage as there's plenty to do in the area, and we didn't get everything done we might have liked to see. The area is a bit of a hidden gem against all the well known tourist hot spots in Scotland. The cottage is well equipped and obviously well cared for, with a really cosy sun room at the end which we spent a lot of time sitting in. There wasn't really anything you wanted for, and the hosts are really lovely so I wouldn't hesitate recommending the place or keeping it in mind for future holidays for ourselves.

Perfection in every way. The hosts were lovely, and left us alone to enjoy their fabulous cottage, but were available and very helpful when needed. If you're looking for peace & quiet, in lovely surroundings, with fabulous accommodation, then this is the place for you.
