The Dales

The Dales sits in Stanhope, a working village in Weardale surrounded by moorland that forms part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This 19th-century stone terrace gives you the whole place to yourself: three bedrooms (one reserved for children), a bathroom with shower, living room with Freeview TV and DVD player, and a kitchen with electric cooker and washing machine. Bed linen, towels, electricity and Wi-Fi are all included, and one pet stays free.
The landscape here suits walkers and cyclists in particular. Established routes and bridle ways branch directly from the village into valleys, fells and woodland; the gently rolling terrain and frequent lay-bys make it popular for stopping to take in views. Hamsterley Forest lies within an hour's reach, as do Killhope Lead Mine, Beamish Living Museum, and Durham's castle and cathedral. Stanhope itself has small shops, cafes and pubs serving local produce, and there is a pub within a mile of the cottage. Outside, you have an enclosed courtyard with seating, garden furniture and a barbecue, plus a bike store and on-road parking. No smoking inside.

Weardale is our escape; where my hubby and I feel free. A Nature Reserve as far as the eye can see with wildlife. Today i photographed rabbits by their burrows in Rookhope. As I need to use a wheelchair ♿️ hiking unfortunately unable to do. My/our happiness is beginning in Shotley Bridge to Stanhope, which is a lovely place for shops &the Pennine surrounding. Rookhope is our favourite, remote and in a valley upon a valley; we go off road to the peak on top & the views are amazing. We go to Allenheads (Hexham) back in Weardale on route via cowshill, St Peters chapel to Stanhope and Walsingham. We stop off at different places on our route. I haven't been in the dales centre yet,it has an information centre and a cafe. Still a wonderful day on october 4th.
