East Devon

The Sid Valley spreads across 14 acres of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, midway between Sidbury inland and Sidmouth on the coast. The Hay Barn is one of several converted barns here, a ground-floor property with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, sleeping four people. There is no smoking in the cottage, and children under 15 are not accommodated.

Both bedrooms have ensuite shower rooms and heated towel rails. The main bedroom has a kingsize bed; the second offers a zip-and-link super kingsize that splits into two single beds on request. The open-plan living space includes a dining area opening onto decking with garden furniture, and a kitchen equipped for full self-catering with electric oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge. Electricity, bed linen and towels are provided.

The grounds include a heated outdoor swimming pool (summer season), tennis court, patio and gardens shared with other properties on site. A laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer is available to guests. The beach lies 3½ miles away; Sidmouth itself is a short drive, Honiton (known for lace and antiques) about 5 miles, and Exeter roughly 15 minutes. Nearby golf courses offer reduced rates at Sidmouth Golf Club. Local walking routes include the Foxglove Way, with cycling, fishing and horse riding also available in the area.

The owners, Stephen and Sarah are fantastic hosts in a beautiful building and setting. The meals are outstanding and cooked by Sarah and Stephen themselves. The bedrooms are wonderful and comfortable, and tastefully designed, and there is everything you need in them for a really good night's sleep. The quality of everything is excellent, including the warm and genuinely thoughtful welcome from Sarah and Stephen personally. They love their home and want their guests to love it, too - and the do!

We had the most amazing 4 x night stay at this hotel. We booked the self catering cottage’s which were so lovely full of everything you needed super clean beautiful crisp white Bed linen & fluffy white towels. L’occitane toiletries in the bathrooms. Steve & Sarah were the most gorgeous hosts, nothing was too much trouble. They opened the pool & sorted sun loungers for us as we had some fabulous sunshine during our stay. The pool was warm & super clean. We took our whippet with us who really enjoyed playing with Max & Benson the hosts blacks labs who were super lovely. The location was perfect for us great walking & a short drive to Sidmouth & other beaches. Highly recommend this wonderful place to stay.

First things first, we got 2 flat tyres on the way to the hotel thanks to a delightful Devon lane ( Not the one going to the hotel I hasten to add) but on phoning Stephen and Sarah to say we would be late their immediate response was "we will come and get you". No ifs or buts, just without thought Sarah came out and picked up my partner and our dog. Now that is seriously caring for your customers! The hotel itself is situated in an idyllic location with beautiful grounds and acres of space to walk your dog. We stayed in the Stable self catering room with beautiful views over the valley. It was clean and comfortable with a lovely heated floor bathroom and gorgeous shower. We eat twice in the hotel and the food was amazing and plenty of it. The hospitality of Stephen and Sarah is second to none and nothing is too much trouble, even to the point that Stephen drove me to get my car when the tyres had been replaced. All in all a wonderful few days away and wish we had booked for a few days more. Thank you folks for everything, we will return.

The Sid Valley Country House Hotel is an incredibly special place to stay. We had the warmest of welcomes from Sarah, Steve, and Benson. Nothing was too much trouble, and the attention to detail in the accommodation was fantastic. This is a perfect place for nature lovers, and bird watchers to come and stay. The views are stunning, beds are comfortable, and self catering lodges are spacious and well designed. Highly recommended, cant wait to come back.
