Woodhall Spa sits within reach of several worthwhile spots. The village itself draws visitors for its golf courses and the Kinema in the Woods cinema; Horncastle, a short drive away, is known for antique shops and general retail. The Lincolnshire Wolds lie 20 minutes by car and reward exploration on foot or by bike, dotted with village pubs and cafés. Skegness and its sandy beaches are further east for a seaside day out.

The Annex By The Bain is a single-bedroom, single-bathroom barn conversion on the ground floor, sleeping two. It contains a living room with television and CD player, a kitchen with electric oven and gas hob suitable for self-catering, and a bedroom with a king-size bed. The shower room has underfloor heating throughout. Outside, there's an enclosed garden with patio and decking, parking for two cars, and bike storage. Wi-Fi, electricity and bed linen are included.

The main draw is direct access to a heated swimming pool and infra-red sauna. The pool offers private use from 7am–10am and 3.45pm–10pm daily; outside these hours it's shared with public members who book separately. A riverside setting means the decking overlooks the Bain. One dog stays free. The river runs unfenced about 8 yards from the property. No smoking inside.

Before I start I should say that we enjoyed our peaceful stay here.. however I was torn between a 5 star review and 1 star, so I gave 3. I don't usually do such detailed reviews or provide photos, so let's consider this review "Upgraded". The reason for this, is that upon arrival we were shown a different space to what we booked. It was explained that the garden area for the one we had booked was NOT secure and backed onto the river Bain. This different cottage had a larger more secure garden. It was also separate from the main house; so more private, and had an outdoor hot tub- not something that interested us. Being away from the main building seemed to cause us to have spotty connection to the free WiFi, fortunately we both got good 5g signal on our phones. The living area was similar in overall size and was well furnished except from the most annoying trip hazard of a mat in the kitchen area. However, this space was far less suitable for our needs as it was up a flight of stairs with no hand rail, not disability friendly. Located over 4 garages the owners used for storage, the entire space has reduced height down both sides; bonked my head about five times. Now even though I would have preferred to remain in the space we booked- we took this alternative which was framed as an UPGRADE because we didn't want to put our dog at risk while on holiday. I accept that, things happen and so initially, I was moderately accepting of the situation. However, when we looked at the guest books, we saw this was not a one off mishap, this is a trend of behaviour, The book is filled with visitors commenting on the upgrade, and perhaps for them it was. But for me, when I go on holiday I expect what I plan to stay in to be available, suitable and matching the description. If I agree a change it should not be because these conditions were not met. Advertise the space you actually intend to rent out!!!

Absolutely outstanding place to stay. Martyn and Debbie are exceptional hosts. The Annex has everything you could possibly need and the swimming pool is a piece of heaven. We stayed last year and have two more trips back this year, can't wait. Completely Covid safe and felt totally at ease there. Thank you for a wonderful chilled out time. Michelle & Steve
