What visitors say
I photographed a wedding at The Old Vicarage at Elkesley and it was a brilliant venue to work at. It’s such a relaxed, characterful setting with beautiful outdoor ceremony space, lovely gardens, a stream running through the grounds and loads of room for guests to enjoy themselves. The tipi reception worked really well, and the whole day flowed naturally from ceremony to drinks, games, food and evening celebrations. From a photographer’s point of view, it’s perfect for capturing real, candid moments because guests have space to move around and the venue has so many interesting backdrops without feeling overly formal or staged. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout, and the whole place had a really warm, relaxed atmosphere. A fantastic Nottinghamshire wedding venue, especially for couples wanting an outdoor, informal and personal wedding day.

I very rarely leave reviews (mainly because I forget!), but this place absolutely deserves one — I had to make the effort. Just wow. Without exaggeration, this is one of the best campsites we’ve ever stayed at with the children. We’ve been camping regularly for the past 6 years (around 4 times a year), and this place has completely blown every other site out of the water. It's absolutely stunning. What a gorgeous setting! The effort Sue, the owner, puts into making your stay perfect is genuinely next level. You can feel how much she cares — it’s not just a campsite, it’s like a home from home! The facilities are excellent. The showers and toilets were well-maintained. But what really sets this place apart is the atmosphere and the people. The staff are outstanding — so friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. They go above and beyond, especially with the children. Sophie Matt Rob and the other staff were amazing in every way!. Every day there was something going on for the bank holiday: pizza truck, ice cream van, duck race, bingo, kids’ disco, quizzes, and so much more. They made our children feel so special and included, which meant everything. There’s also loads for kids to do during the day — rope swings over the river, a play area, little Wendy houses, toys, and open beautiful spaces to explore. It’s the kind of place where kids can just be kids. The entire site is immaculate. Sue and her team were always around, quietly keeping everything running smoothly, tidying, checking in — but never intrusive. It’s the perfect balance: well-managed but still relaxed and laid-back. You can tell this isn’t just a business to them — they genuinely want every guest to have a great time. I honestly couldn’t recommend this place more. We’re already looking forward to coming back. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

The setting is lovely but the staff were awful. We have visited this site every year for the past 5 years. The toilets have always been a bit shabby but the setting is beautiful so we've always accepted that. Firstly when we were trying to book they attempted to overcharge us and got arsey over email when we asked to clarify how they'd worked out the cost. When we arrived there was bags of rubbish stacked around the washing up area and hanging on a tree. The toilet bins were overflowing with rubbish. None of this was cleared whilst we were there. The washing up area was grim, clearly hadn't been cleaned and there were several gross looking sponges. The fridges weren't on and there was a bottle of 'milk' that was creating an ecosystem of its own. We asked about why the fridges weren't on, told it would be sorted. They didn't sort them so we asked again. Staff complained that they were in a meeting and knew nothing about us asking about the fridges. Then told us they were off as no electric hook ups on site. Then that they'd look at it later. No changes, fridges stayed off and no hot water in the washing up hut. The site itself is beautiful but the staff have an attitude problem and can't be bothered with campsite guests. I assume because the weddings bring in more cash.

Amazing!! Perfect for the family. The little river for the kids with rope swings and zip lines was a massive hit. Entertainment was great, with a duck race, quiz, bingo talent show and movie night. Will definately return!
