Boat Lake works well for couples seeking a coastal break, or anyone travelling with a dog. This ground-floor studio sits within walking distance of Thorpeness Meare, where you can hire from over 100 boats to take onto 40 acres of water without advance booking. The beach itself is a quarter-mile away—a shingle stretch backed by traditional seafront cottages, with views across to Aldeburgh and Dunwich.

Inside, the open-plan living space has a 32-inch TV and French doors opening onto a private balcony with outdoor furniture. The bedroom holds a kingsize bed; the bathroom has a walk-in shower. The kitchen is equipped for self-catering, with an electric oven and hob. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi come as standard. There is parking for one car on site. A shared washer-dryer in an external utility room is available. No smoking.

Aldeburgh—a town with restaurants and bars—is a short drive away. The area suits walkers and birdwatchers, with nature reserves and the Reedbed Loop hiking route nearby. Leiston Abbey, with its 14th-century ruins, lies about 4.5 miles inland. One well-behaved pet stays free of charge.

A beautiful boating lake bustling with flora and fauna! I can only recommend hiring a boat and exploring the place from the water - it's great fun to stop by little islands and hop out of the boat for a break!

Haven't been here since I was younger until we went Friday. This place is family and pet friendly. Has plenty of boats for you to go around on and is over 60 acres of hand made lake which is 2 and a half foot deep so if you were to fall out you could stand up. Plenty of wildlife to see whilst your rowing round. There are donkey rides and horse and cart rides around thorpness. £22 for 2 adults to go on a boat for an hour and a half which is plenty of time to explore the 60acres and different islands around the lake.
