About The Wentworth Hotel
The Wentworth has been owned by the Pritt family since 1920 and sits on the north end of Aldeburgh's seafront, around twenty metres from the shingle beach. It has the feel of a country house that happens to face the North Sea: open fires in the lounges, deep armchairs, a terraced garden facing the sea, and long-serving staff who know returning guests by name. It is not a design hotel and does not try to be.
Accommodation is split between 28 bedrooms in the main hotel and seven in Darfield House across the road. Rooms are graded by outlook rather than size alone, with sea-view rooms commanding a premium and inland or garden rooms costing noticeably less. Decor is traditional and comfortable, with good linen, well-kept bathrooms and a general absence of gimmicks. Several ground-floor rooms suit guests who prefer to avoid stairs.
The restaurant holds two AA Rosettes and leans heavily on local supply: fish landed on Aldeburgh beach, Suffolk lamb and pork, and vegetables from nearby growers. Daily specials change with what has come in, and there is a good-value set menu alongside the carte. Light lunches and afternoon tea are served in the lounges and, in warm weather, on the sunken terrace facing the sea.
Aldeburgh's High Street, the Moot Hall, the fish huts and the Scallop sculpture on the beach are all within an easy walk, and Snape Maltings, Thorpeness and the RSPB reserve at Minsmere are a short drive. The hotel suits older couples, walkers on the Suffolk Coast Path, and anyone attending concerts at Snape. Free private parking is included, which matters in a town where seafront spaces are scarce.

Never stayed, but have eaten here a few times and the restaurant is consistently good. Sunday lunch in particular has never disappointed. I'd recommend lunch over dinner, as the staff are fresher and more on the ball. Service in the evening is good, lunch is best. Highly recommend mothers day to make your old mum feel special.

A lovely hotel. We had dinner. We arrived the next morning and asked for breakfast, we were told they were fully booked, most tables were empty, we commented at reception where the receptionist was surprised that we had been turned away, she asked but was also refused. Probably because we hadn't pre booked. However, apart from the head waiter, hotel great and food excellent.

I booked an afternoon tea to share with my sister, who has come from Canada, to celebrate her 60th birthday. Our waiter did not appear to have received any training or guidance on how to deal with customers. 1. He opened with - tea or coffee? Disappointing as the description for the afternoon tea detailed a list of teas and none of these were offered. 2. He then said " then I'll bring you your snacks" 3. He found it very tricky to fit everything onto the table and rather than ask to move items he shuffled the cake stand into place- if we hadn't intervened things may have fallen off the table. 4. When I requested another pot of tea he said he would but when I requested a clean cup as there was cold tea in my cup, his response was- "Oh go on then" like he was doing me a favour. 5. When he brought the new pot of tea, he held the tray at such an angle that the tea poured out all over the floor and nearly over my sister and her coat. He left the large puddle of tea on the floor and did not return to clean it up. 6. He did not interact in any other way and ask us if everything was okay. The afternoon tea was average- some of the cakes were very heavy and difficult to eat but on the whole it was okay. I was expecting more from the service and tea. I emailed twice to express my dissatisfaction but received no reply-also disappointing. Good points- beautiful location, beautiful room, comfortable seating.

Yet again had the most delicious Sunday Roast today, with the best mushroom soup starter I’ve ever had!!! Utterly superb. Our go to venue for a Sunday lunch, and on a sunny warm day, lunching out in the terrace. Consistently excellent food and service from a team of staff that we’ve known for years.
