Halesworth sits in the valley of the River Blyth, surrounded by countryside that draws walkers and explorers throughout the year. The Stables, housed in a beautifully renovated old stable building within The Firs Suffolk, offers complete privacy on a four-acre site enclosed by trees and gardens. The property sleeps four across two bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom and a bed that can be configured as either a super king or two singles.

Everything happens on one floor. The open-plan living space has a vaulted ceiling, a wood-burning stove for cooler evenings, and French doors that lead onto a terrace. The kitchen is equipped to cook properly, with an induction hob and electric oven. Beyond the terrace sits a firepit and barbecue area with garden seating, and the private hot tub for four guests. Essentials including Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen, towels and initial fuel for the burner are all included. The property is non-smoking.

This works well for small groups wanting space to themselves—families, friends gathering for a weekend, or couples who prefer room to spread out. Local walks start from near the village hall in Manse. The setting is peaceful rather than close to attractions; the appeal is the quiet and the garden itself.

We stayed here over Easter, can’t recommend it highly enough. Stayed in the Old Press, and it has all you need and more for a relaxing countryside stay- the wood burner inside, fire pit and wood fired hot tub outside cap it off. The sauna is well worth booking as well for a private session. Location is perfect for walking, cycling, and the coast is within easy reach by car. Superb, five stars.

A stay at The Firs in Cratfield is an ABSOLUTE must. Peaceful setting, wonderful accommodation & the private, well maintained hot tubs are divine - especially on a clear night under the stars. Dear Alison, We had a fantastic stay at The Old Press from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, everything was spotless, welcoming, and exactly as described – if anything, it was even nicer in person. Check-in was simple and stress-free, with clear instructions that made everything easy. Your communication throughout was excellent: really responsive, warm, and full of helpful recommendations, which genuinely added to our trip and made us feel really looked after. What really stood out to us is how much thought and care has clearly gone into creating this space. The barn itself is beautiful and so cosy – the super-comfy bed, powerful shower, and all the little touches around the place made it feel like a proper retreat rather than just somewhere to sleep. We cooked both nights, and the kitchen had everything we needed and more: plenty of utensils, pans, crockery, and all the basics you usually end up missing in other places. It felt like you’d really thought about what guests actually use and need. The outside space and amenities are a huge part of what makes this place special. We absolutely loved the private garden and the wood-fired hot tub – it was spotless, easy to use, and such a treat to sit and relax in after the day. The fire pit/BBQ area and bistro seating make it a perfect spot for slow evenings, and you can just imagine how magical it must be on a clear night under the stars. We also really appreciated the quiet, peaceful setting and the fact there’s free parking and good Wi-Fi, so it’s both relaxing and practical. Even though the weather wasn’t on our side, it was clear how lovely the wider site is. Being able to wander through the woodland and around the moat garden and pond is such a unique bonus, and you can tell a lot of effort goes into maintaining the grounds. We’d love to come back in better weather to make the most of exploring the two acres of woodland properly and perhaps take advantage of the little extras like hiring the Dutch bikes or trying the pizza oven. Thank you also for the small extras for my birthday – they really made the stay feel memorable and special, and it meant a lot that you went to that effort. It’s very clear this is a small business run with real pride, care, and attention to detail, and it honestly deserves to be busy all year round. We felt genuinely welcomed and valued as guests, and we really want others to discover this place too. We’ll certainly be recommending The Old Press and The Firs Suffolk to friends and family, and we’re already planning another visit ourselves. With warmest thanks, Craig & Ben

We spent last weekend celebrating with a group of friends at the Firs. The location and accommodation are absolutely lovely and our friends were very impressed by the beautiful setting and range of pretty indoor and outdoor spaces to gather and relax. We made pizzas in the wood fired oven, grilled local steaks over the firepit and feasted in the glorious old barn which Alison and Amy had kindly (& tastefully) decorated with meadow flowers and bunting - it was very, very special. A perfect place to gather with family and friends.
