What visitors say
Stunning place with incredible views, but a couple of things to be aware of. I did the Viewpoint and Sleeping Giant routes. The Viewpoint is well worth it, but it is tough. There are a lot of very steep steps, so you will need a decent level of fitness. It is not made clear just how demanding it is. The Sleeping Giant route starts off well signposted, but once you move away from the reserve the signage disappears. I ended up walking miles out of the way and only found the right path by asking a local. If you are doing it, take the zig zag route up away from the forest. When you reach a steep rise with farm fields on your left, carry on for about 300 metres. There is a small path on the right going uphill. If you start heading back downhill towards forestry, you have gone too far. When the path splits, go left. Wildlife was great. Using Merlin Bird ID, everything recorded was seen apart from Redpoll. Also loads of brown hare in the farm fields. The RSPB shop is standard the staff are great the toilets are amazing there is plenty of parking even when busy.

Great visitor centre and cafe. Did the wetland trail. There are several hides and you are quite a way from the water do bring binoculars or you can hire them for £7. Parking (a charge) is spacious and there's an underpass for the road. We went to see the pink-footed geese and were not disappointed. Heard them before we saw them.

Great place to visit, very well maintained and plenty of birds to see. We met the elusive red squirrel, but the birds were too hard to photograph without a professionsl camera. Osprey and sedge warbler were the most notable presence on our visit.

The bird watching is great, plenty of hides and always friendly. Shop is lovely too. The heritage trail is also worth a wander down. An excellent place to chill and put the rest of the world out of mind 😌
