About The Downs Stables

Head to the heart of the South Downs for a stay among the horses at The Downs Stables, where cosy glamping pods occupy a historic National Hunt Racing stables in the village of Findon, just below Cissbury Ring. This is a splendid spot for those keen on all things equestrian – you'll watch horses being put through their paces on site, and can time visits to coincide with races at nearby Goodwood, Fontwell Park or Plumpton. You're following in the footsteps of legendary trainers Josh Gifford and Captain Ryan Price, who worked out of Findon turning out Classic winners Ginevra and Bruni.

Even if horses aren't your passion, there's much to appreciate. The village itself is lovely, with independent shops, pretty houses, four pubs, an excellent Indian takeaway and a smart fine dining restaurant offering midweek discounts to guests. Direct access to the South Downs means outstanding walking and cycling, while Worthing's seaside is only ten minutes by car. Pods sleep two with double beds, outdoor seating and barbecues; a separate shared building houses a large kitchen and shower room.

I had a great couple of days at the Downs Stables. The setting, the standard of the accommodation and the hosts were nothing short of top drawer. I stayed in Straw Bear which was spotlessly clean and very well furnished. Bathroom was excellent and the bed very comfy. It was a wonderful experience to be woken up by the sound of hoof-steps. I was lucky enough to be taken up onto the gallops by Nick to watch the racehorses exercise in the morning in the most idyllic of surroundings which is an experience I will never forget and highly recommend. Ruth was a fabulous host making sure that all my needs were met for a very relaxing and comfortable stay - very friendly, welcoming and approachable. With the South Downs accessible within meters and the pretty village of Findon on your doorstep as well as access to a historic racing yard, I can't recommend a few days away here enough. I can't wait to come back! Thank you Ruth and Nick!

Booking was really easy, Ruth answered any of my questions really quickly. My partner and I stayed in the ' straw bear ' suite. Spotlessly clean and was equipped with everything we needed for a short break. Was lovely to be staying in the heart of an historic racing yard and hearing the clip clipping of hooves outside. Highly recommend

Perfect property - everything we needed for a great stay. The breakfast pack was a lovely touch. Welcoming team, happy to answer all our questions - and always smiling, despite the melting heat. Gorgeous horses to make friends with. A great base to explore the area - so much to do, plenty of places to eat & drink. We'll definitely be back for another visit. Thank you to the whole team.

We were the first to stay in the brand new aldanti cabin, it was amazing and had everything we needed. Ruth and nick were so helpful and we were even given a tour of the yard to meet the horses. It’s located in such a beautiful area and is just 30 mins from both goodwood racecourse and brighton pier. Both of which we visited for the weekend.
