Couples after a countryside break will find Foxglove Retreat works well. This one-bedroom cottage sits on the edge of Woodhall Spa in the hamlet of Pantymwyn, between Loggerheads Country Park and Cilcain Village. The whole property is yours alone, with private parking in a courtyard and half an acre of gardens to the rear—a sheltered sun trap that overlooks open countryside. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, leading through to a sitting and dining room with patio doors opening onto the gardens. Upstairs, a king-size bedroom and bathroom with both bath and shower complete the layout. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included.

The location delivers on walking. Footpaths begin at the gate and cross fields towards Loggerheads Country Park and Moel Famau, the highest peak in the Clwydians. The Offa's Dyke Path runs through the area too. A pub lies within a mile's walk, and Mold Golf Course is nearby for those who play. The market town of Mold, three miles away, has shops, restaurants and Theatr Clwyd. Chester is eighteen miles south if you want a day exploring the Roman remains and riverside. The wood-burning stove and exposed beams make the cottage particularly appealing on cooler months, while the gardens come into their own in summer. No smoking inside the property.

I wasn’t going to leave a bad review until a form of blackmail was used. I booked this airb&b for me and my little girl to stay as we were travelling up to cadwell park. We arrived at 7:30/8pm at night to a dirty toilet, crumbs on the floor and grass in the sink. I cleaned this myself with anti-bac wipes as I just wanted to relax after a long day and couldn’t be bothered with the faff as we were up again at 6am. I messaged Bev as soon as we left with pictures and she said “I hope you don’t leave a bad review as I let your daughter stay” - this refers to her “not usually letting children stay” as there isn’t enough beds, but with it just being myself and my daughter, Bev accepted this as she sleeps in the bed with me so I thought there was no problem, the only thing Bev said was “don’t let her near the gate where the horses are” which I fully understood and it was too late anyway to even go in the garden area. There is no where that states “no children allowed” on the house rules and I had read that a number of children had stayed before in the air b&b, * edit * she has now changed the rules to “no under 16s”, I have screenshots to prove that there was no where on the house rules that says that when I booked. I believe she has done this to make me look silly as she didn’t want me to post a review about the cleanliness but I feel like I’m left with no choice now.

Incredibly hospitable, beautiful little room situated above a garage. Quaint, different and well received. Host was very pleasant and helpful adhering to social distancing measures and infection prevention control measures to ensure alls safety in these trying times. Would highly recommend and would book personally again in the future. Thank you Bev!

Such a nice place to stay. A little home from home. I was amazed at how much thought and effort went into the room. Can’t wait to stay again!!!
