About Gables Farm Touring and Camping

There's been a campsite at Gables Farm since 1946, and that experience shows. This small, family-run site in the Severn Vale keeps things refreshingly simple: spacious, level grass pitches (electric hook-up optional), spotless modern shower and toilet facilities, and genuinely welcoming owners who've mastered the art of helpful hospitality without fuss. You can pick up fresh free-range eggs on site, and reasonable prices make it popular with both stopover guests and those lingering to explore the area.

The location delivers easy access from the M5 while sitting close to the western edge of the Cotswolds AONB—about 15 minutes' drive from Gloucester's centre. Pubs in Whitminster (two minutes) and Frampton on Severn (10 minutes) handle the local eating and drinking, or head to handsome Stroud, a quarter-hour away, for something more adventurous.

What visitors say

Last minute booking on a Saturday but greeted in person and everything explained. Nice level pitches and I would say the cleanest facilities I have experienced. Easy access to water and well set out bins etc.

The welcome was very friendly and the place was easy to find. It is equipped with everything you need and we found the traffic noise far less problematic than we had feared (audible but not disturbing). The price is also reasonable. The monstrous gate leaves a rather unwelcome impression. Sanitary facilities: Looks great at first glance. But it isn't. The men's and women's toilets and the men's shower were clean, but the women's shower was less so. Only one cubicle was open in each case, which was okay given the low occupancy. Not okay at all: push-button shower! It took forever to get hot (press, jump back naked, wait, press, jump back naked ...). In the men's room, it hardly got warm, and in the women's room, hardly any water came out. In the women's room, there were no bags on the toilet and no paper towels at the sinks. In the men's room, there wasn't a single trash can?! And: at the end of October, it was 6°C and there was no heating!! Conclusion: 21st-century looks, 19th-century comfort. Too bad.
