About Oakwood Hotel

Oakwood Hotel occupies a Grade II listed building at Twigworth, on the northern edge of Gloucester, and has been substantially refurbished in recent years into a contemporary country hotel. Its rural setting, a few minutes' drive from the city, gives it a quieter feel than hotels closer to the centre.

The hotel runs several distinct dining spaces, including a pub-style bar, grill restaurant and a private dining room, alongside a terrace bar for outdoor drinks in warmer months, and offers afternoon tea through most of the week. Bedrooms use natural tones and quality linens in keeping with the hotel's recent refit.

The countryside location, with ample parking and a pet-friendly policy, suits visitors touring by car, families and couples looking for a relaxed base a short drive from Gloucester's cathedral and docks.

Great little hotel, central location, clean and tidy, plenty of hot water and a bath! The bar food was excellent and good value as well as the pre-booked English breakfast with good quality on offer. Staff were very polite and accommodating, especially Becky and Yash who provided a smile and chat each morning. Nothing too much trouble. Thursday evening there was a local singer as entertainment in the lounge which was excellent. Highly recommended for value.

When I first arrived, I thought the parking would be free and I realised I need to pay for it. It's £5 per day so I paid for it. The hotel itself was really nice, alongside with bar and restaurant. The room was spotless, spacious and lovely. I came down for dinner and it was very nice. The service was very friendly and pleasant. In the morning, I had a very nice breakfast and Horman was lovely too. He was friendly and made sure everything was OK. I hope to visit again and would recommend it to anyone. Just be mindful about the parking that is not free.

We recently had a family meal at Oakwood Hotel and honestly couldn’t fault a thing. The food was absolutely amazing, every meal was cooked perfectly and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were so friendly, helpful, and attentive throughout the whole visit, which made the experience even better. The entire atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed, and we all left saying how fabulous the evening had been. We’ll definitely be returning and would highly recommend Oakwood Hotel to anyone looking for great food and wonderful service!

I recently stayed here about a couple of weeks ago with 2 friends. We booked 2 ground floor rooms due to one of my friends & myself with disabilities on walking sticks, when we arrived the receptionist said only 1 ground floor room was available even though when we booked we actually spoke to a live person not 'AI'. The manager was called by the receptionist & thanks to her she went out of her way to find & clean herself another ground floor room so l want to thank her personally once again otherwise the stay would not have been possible. The staff overall very friendly especially Alice & Holly who really looked after us 💯💯👌🏽👌🏽 Holly is a very nice bright friendly kind young lady with a great future ahead. Food is home cooked, fresh & absolutely delicious, the breakfast is cooked to order which is excellent as l have a certain 'food allergy'. Only thing that let the hotel down was the room service/housekeeping, the small bathroom & hard as rock uncomfortable bed. Also with the very hot weather this hotel should consider 'Mini Fridges' as l spent alot of money been the overall payee for ice cold soft drinks at the bar, even though we found a shop close by to buy cheaper soft drinks to keep in our rooms they went extremely warm straight away. As a popular Google reviewer l have stayed in alot of 4-5 ⭐️ hotels, my last one was 'Torquay' which is very hot & they provided 'mini fridges' in all their rooms. I know this is possible by spending that extra to keep the guests happy, it's your choice. If & when you make these changes including decent comfortable beds & housekeeping improvement l will be happy to return but this has to be done first. Date of review 05/0626
