Llechwedd

Llechwedd is a four-bedroom house sleeping eight in the centre of Morfa Nefyn, a village on the Llŷn Peninsula in Gwynedd. The property comes as a whole to yourself, with one well-behaved pet welcome at no extra cost. Two bathrooms serve the bedrooms: three on the ground floor (a double, two singles, and a bunk room) and a fourth double with ensuite on the first floor. The living area centres on an open fire, with a kitchen and dining space that opens onto a rear garden; the essentials—heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi—are included.

The enclosed garden has a decked area, lawns and furniture, with space to park two cars on site. A two-minute walk brings you to the village shop for supplies and local produce. Porth Dinllaen beach is five minutes away on foot. Nearby, Zip World Underground Golf offers activities within the old slate mines that have shaped the local landscape for centuries; the visitor attraction runs tours through the quarry, exhibitions on its industrial heritage, and underground golf among the caverns. The area suits families wanting a traditional seaside break, with plenty of scope to explore both the coast and the inland countryside of North Wales.

We did the deep mine tour and I was fairly impressed. Effort had been made to make an informative and enjoyable experience. Son et lumière style. But what really made it for me was our guide Brian, who had actually worked in the mine. He was authoritative, funny, experienced, genuine, convincing, authentic and full of stories. Ask for Brian folks.

Super variety of experiences available. We did the zip wires, bounce below and underground golf. Highlight was probably the golf, crazy golf with extra novelty. All staff were amazing and couldn’t be more helpful. Food and drink was nice too, although we didn’t try a huge amount of the menu.

Happily Wandering

I have to say, this was the best underground tour I have been on (I have been on many). Phil was an amazing guide, he was knowledgeable, passionate and funny. He answered all my questions. It's great that his family has links with the mine. After signing all the Health and Safety forms, we were given a wrist band. Our Safety hats were on and we were given the H&S talk. Phil gave the slate cutting demonstrate. Then off we went. We walked into the mine and stopped at various points. Phil did a fantastic job delivering the history. The tour was brought to life with the videos on the walls. The lighting and music was spot on. A great visitor attraction for all ages. You need full mobility as the descent involved walking down 90 steps. We were taken back to the surface by a little train. A brilliant two hours and highly recommended. Stop off at the cafe and grab a brew, if you are lucky you may get to meet the Robin. A great, well stocked gift shop. A lovely girl helped me choose my magnet. Hope she got her Alan Garner book. Toilets available. Parking is £3 for the day and payable through an app. A heads up, it's card payment only throughout the attraction. A great day and worthy of the two hour drive from Liverpool.

Llechwedd Slate Caverns is a fascinating and atmospheric place to visit, offering a brilliant mix of history, storytelling and dramatic underground scenery. The guided tour brings the lives of the miners to life, with powerful audio, lighting and real locations that make the experience feel authentic rather than staged. The descent into the caverns is memorable, and the scale of the chambers and machinery is incredible to see up close. A fantastic visit for families, history lovers and anyone interested in Wales’ industrial heritage and unique underground landscapes.
