About OYO Douglas Hotel
Grange Road sits within easy reach of Hartlepool town centre, putting the OYO Douglas Hotel close to local shops, pubs and restaurants without the noise of being right in the thick of it. It's a handy base for exploring this part of County Durham, with the wider county's attractions, including Durham University, within striking distance by car.
The hotel has 17 en-suite rooms with air conditioning and free WiFi, and there's a restaurant and bar on site along with a garden for some outdoor space. Breakfast is available, and facilities extend to a spa and sauna, meeting rooms and business services, making it workable for both leisure stays and work trips. Free on-site parking is included, which is a genuine plus for anyone arriving by car. It's worth knowing that maintenance in the rooms can be inconsistent and service doesn't always hit the mark, so this suits guests after a straightforward, low-cost stay rather than a polished one.
Beyond the hotel, Hartlepool town centre is close by for everyday amenities, and there are pubs, restaurants and entertainment options nearby for evenings out. It's a practical spot for getting around the wider area, with the free parking making day trips into the county straightforward.
What guests say
For starters I’ll list what I had when I first entered. dirty floors, rubbish left in corner of the room from last guest. Broken window that couldn’t shut. heavy draft causing the blinds to smack against the window. now Working bathroom light. incredibly low pressure shower. No working heating so the room was freezing. bed seemed good, was comfy enough, seemed clean. Now the service, the service was helpful tho. A bit untraditional but they helped. You’d call a number and some fella in a Russian hat would come use a belt to try and close your window (the window couldn’t be closed) but they did get me an electric heater, couldn’t use it through the night tho as it was so loud. It’s right near the centre and decent takeaways. But I got bothered a lot by beggers the moment I’d leave. I know this ain’t the hotels fault but that it a location point.

Жах! This building is terrible. The rooms are really dirty, the sheet looked like someone slept in the bed before me. Carpet, walls are dirty, when I sat onthe mattress - felt hard bed base. I was with my friend there - we had 2 single rooms but it was impossible to stay there any longer and we immediately booked another hotel and just left. By the way, the owner/manager/whoever didn't answer our calls after we came in. The pictures on the sites were made 5 years ago and the hotel looks nice on the photos, but now this is a horrible place. I know, many people said "you got what you paid for", but I would rather paid more but for better quality. I used to rent rooms in hotels next to the sea for same price but it was good and nice, clean, and not this pigshed. Don't trust the pictures on the sites, trust pictures in the reviews!!!

Do not stay at this hotel. I have never stayed somewhere this awful. As soon as I entered I was greeted with a smashed mirror at the top of the stairs. Me and my friend went into our room, bathroom light not working, dirty used toilet, broken wardrobe about to fall apart, stained bed sheets and head board. Dirty side draws which looked like it contained tobacco inside, broken sink handles, stained carpets. I then asked to move rooms. 2nd room was a bit better, a little bit more clean but still wasnt amazing. To top it off me and my friend were woken at 4am by a man shouting for help and fire alarm going off. Hotel had been broken into and an elderly man was attacked resulting in everyone waiting outside for an hour in the cold while emergency services arrived. We felt unsafe and absolutely ripped off . No apology was made or no compensation was offered. Avoid this place at all costs.
