About Thornley House
Three cosy rooms are all Thornley House offers, but that modest scale is part of its appeal: this is an informal country-house B&B in Hexham, Northumberland, set among sprawling gardens with outdoor seating and a picnic area for guests who want to sit outside. Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, drinks in room, and family rooms are available for those travelling with children. Free WiFi and 24 hour reception are standard, and pets are welcome.
Mornings start with a cooked breakfast, and the on-site spa and sauna give guests somewhere to unwind after a day out. Free on-site parking makes the house an easy base for exploring, with Hexham Abbey and Hadrian's Wall both within reach. The surrounding area suits walkers and cyclists, and there's fishing and a golf course nearby too.
Come evening, the local pubs, bars and restaurants are close by for food and a drink out. For a small B&B, Thornley House packs in a good deal: garden views, quiet grounds, and a genuinely homely feel that suits those who prefer a personal stay over anything corporate.

We visited Thornley House garden as it was part of the Red Cross Open Gardens scheme. We didn't go into the house or stay there so can't comment on the rooms. However, the garden was lovely and everyone (including the cats) was absolutely brilliant. There were lots of places to sit in the sun or shade and enjoy the delicious tea and cakes. The cat cemetery in the wood was touching, a calm and beautiful resting place. We all thought it would be a great place to stay.
