Am Bothan

Photo: Kathy Claire

Am Bothan is a single-storey detached cottage where everything happens on the ground floor. You arrive into a living and dining space with a multi-fuel burner and Smart TV, giving onto a kitchen fitted with an electric oven, hob, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. The two bedrooms—one with a king bed, one with zip-and-link singles—sit alongside a bathroom with bath and overhead shower. A veranda and enclosed garden with firepit face across Loch Ewe toward the mountains. Two cars can park on site.

The cottage sits above a wild swimming spot five minutes' walk away; Sandy Firemore beach is three miles off. Poolewe village, two and a half miles distant, has cafés, a shop with post office, a hotel bar and public pool. Inverewe Botanical Gardens lie three and a half miles away. The surrounding landscape draws hill walkers, mountain bikers, kayakers and anglers—Fisherfield Forest sits within hiking distance. One dog is welcome free of charge, though smoking is not permitted.

Essentials are covered: wifi, electricity, heating, bed linen and towels all included, plus a first supply of wood for the burner. The cottage suits couples, small families or groups of four exploring the northwest Highlands.

Got to be the best salad and cake cafe in town. The salad and Buddha bowl are unreal, fresh produce and loaded with meal. Good size portions and the staff are great. Must try the homemade cheesecake, scotch eggs and sausage rolls.

The ladies who work here are very sweet and the food is very good for the price. Our favorite was their BLT and carrot cake. We’re here exploring the highlands and we’ve loved starting our day with their food and coffee. Highly recommend.

I have got oriental lentil soup, vegetable wrap and coffee latte. Soup was hot tasty but lots of potatoes wasn't peeled. Vegetable wrap look like vegetable panini. Too much sweet potatoes inside and coriander leaves. Coffee latte wasn't tasty for me. Taste like south instant coffee. I have second time visit. I have got lentil & butternut squash soup. Mozzarella, tomato, rocket toastie with salad. Carrot cake and black tea with fresh milk. Soup was tasty but too spicy for me. Toastie was medium tasty and too burn, so i ate not a lot. Carrot cake was tasty. Tea taste like very cheap tea. I thinking, I do not will come any more.

How have you only got one other 5 star review? If you're in Inverness and want an excellent breakfast, or snack (and for great value) you need to visit here. This place is a small cafe that can accommodate for around ten people. It serves quite an extensive menu for a small cafe (see photos) along with doughnuts from a local supplier (Perk Coffee + Doughnuts). The staff are friendly and the food very nice ! I can very much recommend the cinnamon and apple doughnut (one of the best doughnuts I've had); my friends went back for a top up of them. I can also recommend the breakfast burrito, which at £4.50, is extremely good value for money ! Please do visit this cafe :)
