Ardville

Melness is a working crofting community where the landscape feels genuinely remote, yet a country pub sits within walking distance and Tongue village—with shops and more amenities—is five minutes by car. Ardville is a stone croft cottage positioned to overlook the Kyle of Tongue, with Rabbit Island visible across the water. The cottage retains its character while offering modern comforts: a wood-burning stove in the living room, a well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine, and a bright shower room on the ground floor.

Upstairs, the roof has been raised to create surprising headroom. There are three bedrooms: a king on the first floor, and on the ground floor a twin and a single. Bed linen, towels, and heating are included; wifi is available throughout. An enclosed garden with seating faces the sea—a practical spot despite the three steps down to it. Parking for three cars is on site. One small dog is welcome, provided it stays on a lead (sheep roam freely here). No smoking inside.

The cottage suits families or groups who want genuine quiet without sacrificing a proper pub nearby, or anyone drawn to working countryside rather than tourist hotspots. Arrival is after 16:00, departure before 10:00.
