Baltinna East is a timber-clad lodge in Newtonmore, in the heart of Cairngorms National Park. The single bedroom has a kingsize bed, large velux windows with electric blinds, and a mezzanine desk area – handy if you're working remotely. Wooden beams, a wood-burner in the living room and oak flooring run through the property. What sets it apart is the separate utility room with pulley drying rack, a genuine asset for anyone arriving muddy from the hills or loch.
The open-plan living, kitchen and dining space has a double-height section that makes the whole place feel bigger than it is. A large porch and enclosed garden add to the sense of room. Essentials like electricity, wifi, bed linen and towels are included. You have the whole property to yourself, plus an enclosed garden with a private sitting-out area. There is car parking on site. One well-behaved dog can stay free.
Newtonmore sits between the Cairngorm and Monadhliath ranges with golf courses, fishing on the River Spey, mountain biking, skiing and wild-swimming within reach. The village has appeared in Monarch of the Glen and Outlander. Non-smokers only.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Baltinna East. The apartment is spacious, comfortable, and very well equipped with everything you could need. We felt at home straight away. Communication with Dianne and Rod was very pleasant throughout our stay. We would happily recommend Baltinna East to anyone planning a stay in the beautiful Cairngorms.

We had the most wonderful holiday staying in two of the cabins at Where Stags Roar. We spent our first two nights in the cosy and beautifully thought-out Old Bakery, then moved to the East Baltinna for another six nights — which was simply superb. Every detail has been carefully considered to make for a perfect stay. The East Baltinna is a stylish and contemporary cabin nestled in a small wooded copse just off the main road — which, remarkably, you can’t hear at all. There’s loads of space for a couple, and it’s a peaceful, private base from which to enjoy everything the Cairngorms has to offer. Diana was incredibly helpful throughout, always available to answer questions or offer recommendations. If we had to mention anything that could be improved — and we’re really nit-picking here — it would be the shower heads in both cabins. They’re quite small, and upgrading them would add a touch more luxury to match the high standard of the rest of the stay. That said, it’s a very minor point and certainly wouldn’t stop us from returning or recommending these properties wholeheartedly.

Baltinna East was a fantastic find. Spacious, extremely comfortable and well-designed. It felt like a treat which is what a holiday should feel like. A very relaxing trip away with our furry friend in stunning weather.

Another great stay at a Where Stags Roar cottage. First time in Baltinna East, but impressed yet again with the facilities and the communication from the host regarding a potential utilities issue in the area. Great base for walking and a host of other experiences nearby. Will definitely be back. Paul
