Walking into Hirta, you step straight into a ground-floor open-plan space where living, dining and kitchen occupy one room. A double bedroom with French doors opens onto a private patio, and there's a bathroom with bath and shower. Everything sits at ground level, with no steps to navigate. The kitchen has an electric oven, hob and microwave for cooking; a washer-dryer handles laundry. Smart TV, Wi-Fi, heating and towels are all provided.
This converted church forms part of a National Trust village on a remote island, reached by boat. The property is yours alone, with parking for one car on site. A shared garden lies beyond your private patio. The setting is stark and exposed—this is genuinely isolated terrain, not a manicured retreat. One dog is welcome. Smoking is not permitted indoors.
The shop sits 400 yards away and the pub 50 yards. This works for those seeking genuine remoteness and willing to embrace a landscape shaped by weather and abandonment rather than comfort.

I was fortunate to have to work on St Kilda for 4 days getting the helicopter from Kyle of Lochalsh and was amazed about the history. The island that the weather changes in minutes and views that are breathtaking...I'm just amazed how the islanders survived.

A non-inhabited island is full of rich history. Mystic, historic and lonely island where people lived and dedicated their lives. It's a land of birds, puffins, sheep, and goats. In place, you will find habitants' houses, a cemetery, a small shop with souvenirs, and a church. A local ranger will guide you through the island. It takes a while to get there but you will be rewarded for visiting the most distant UK island in the west. Depending on the weather conditions, quite often (as in our case), the weather could be quite foggy. Weather conditions can limit your visibility and your experience being on the island. Long story short - take weather into account. A little bit of courage and discipline is needed if you want to get there for yourself. We were sailing there using our own yacht through the night, so we could arrive here at 6:00 in the morning as planned, due to the tides.

Incredible mystic, iconic and demonic place. The land of birds and sheep. Lost in the see, and you have to be very courage to set off there. But you would be rewarded by lonely island, with very interesting history. Well, do not expect too much, nothing there just a nature, freedom and spectacular views.
