Strathconon Cottages - Gate Lodge

Photo: martin brimacombe

Gate Lodge is a thoroughly equipped cottage for four on the Scardroy Estate in Highland. Everything needed for a comfortable stay comes with it: electricity, heating via air source heat pump with underfloor warming on the ground floor, wood for the burner, bed linen and towels. The kitchen has a full range of appliances including a dishwasher, induction hob and electric oven. A washing machine and tumble dryer in the utility room mean you can manage longer stays without laundry concerns.

The layout spreads across two floors. Downstairs: a living room with Freeview Smart TV and woodburner, a separate snug with sofa bed, the kitchen and dining area overlooking the water, a utility room and toilet. Upstairs: two bedrooms (one with a zip-and-link kingsize that splits into singles, one with twin beds) and a shower room with walk-in shower. A landline telephone is available, though there is currently no internet or mobile signal. Three cars can park on the grounds, and there is a sitting-out area outside.

The cottage suits those wanting to step away from connectivity and daily routine. The surrounding estate offers walking and river views. No smoking inside.

A single track road takes you down through the estate for 17 miles, beautiful scenery all round and plenty of walks to take. Also lots of deer to see and even the golden eagle.

We had the fantastic pleasurable time spent on the Estate and around the North of Scotland this month. My wife had never been to this part of the country and she and I are both in love with the area, the lifestyle, the scenery, in particular the Strathconon Estate, and the friendly nature of people we had talked to. Breath taking rolling Glens and meandering streams. Would highly recommended this area to anyone who wants get away from technology (internet and mobiles). Both of us and our two border collies can’t wait to visit the jaw dropping beautiful part of the country again, simply stunning. Who needs to go overseas?

Highland games in Strathconon always highlight of the year with community meeting up for catch up chats and visitors. Venison burgers always a must and local staff with preserves and local photography to purchase whilst enjoying clay pigeon shooting and all who participate in the track events and listening to the strathpeffer pipe band. The sun was out which made it more enjoyable 👌

Simple beautiful. Well managed Highland estate property. All the words still can't do this place justice. Thank you to the estate for making this public access land.
