Family-run beachfront camping by white sand and turquoise water near Iona

About Fidden Farm Campsite

Fidden Farm sits on the Ross of Mull, a mile from the Iona ferry, and has been run by the same family since 1952. It occupies a broad sweep of coastal machair where arrivals choose their own pitch across the open field, many within steps of a sheltered bay of white sand and startlingly clear water. There are no bookings—camping is strictly first-come, first-served—and the site fills fast on sunny days, though some visitors note that facilities can feel a touch basic and the lack of electric hook-up won't suit everyone.

What's here is well kept: modern toilet and shower blocks, dishwashing points, and reception staffed from eight until ten through the season. Dogs are welcome on leads, including on the beach. The approach road is narrow, so larger caravans and motorhomes should take care on the final stretch. Open late March to September, Fidden makes an obvious base for boat trips to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles or a crossing to Iona itself.

Pictures can not show just how beautiful this campsite truly is. Stunning, in our 18 years caravanning and Motorhoming this without doubt the best view we have seen from a pitch. There is no need to worry you won’t get a pitch as the campsite is huge. Lovely welcome from the owners. Modern shower block and posh portaloos in the campsite. You must get a day ferry crossing to Iona where there are equally stunning beaches, taking a cycle if you can to see all the island.

We loved this site. No booking- just turn up. Think it was £12 pp ( plus a dog) for unserviced pitch. They have a couple of big fields right on the beach and it is spectacular! Quite a small shower/toilet block but very nicely done. There were a small number of pitches through the gate on far corner right on the beach. The drive across mull to get here was also amazing - be prepared for single lane with passing places. Also lots of sheep running loose so dogs need to be on leads. Enjoy. Thank you

Fidden has to be one of the most beautiful campsites we have stayed on. So much space and peace, we just didn't want to leave. Facilities were clean and modern and the beach was just spectacular. Perfectly located for Iona trips from Fionnphort, it's just over a mile to walk. What a place! We will definitely be back.

We were in a motorhome and parked facing the beach and the view. It was simply the best location ever and worth the drive to get there. It was welcoming, relaxed, unpretentious ,very well maintained and everyone using the site was considerate of others. The beach was easily accessible with long walks on firm sand when the tide was out. I can't praise it highly enough and it was our favourite stop in a 10 day trip
