About Ventnor Bay House
Ventnor Bay House is a two-bedroom bed and breakfast in a Victorian terrace of nine houses built on the clifftop for naval officers, directly above Ventnor Haven. Because there are only two rooms, the whole place operates more like staying with well-organised friends than checking into a hotel, and the sea view from the front is completely uninterrupted - you look straight out over the harbour wall and the Channel.
Both bedrooms have super-king beds and their own en-suite shower rooms with WC. Rooms come with television, Wi-Fi and a fridge, and breakfast is included. The owners also offer a washing and drying service, which is worth knowing if you are walking the coastal path or arriving off a boat. There is off-road parking, a genuine advantage on Ventnor's steep and narrow streets.
The house is over three floors and there are around thirty-six steps up to the second floor, so it is not suitable for anyone with mobility difficulties. It does not take children or pets, and it opens seasonally - broadly spring through to the end of September - so it pays to enquire early for summer dates. Payment is by cash, cheque or bank transfer rather than card.
The location is about as central as Ventnor gets. The Esplanade, the Haven's fish kiosks and the town's restaurants are a short walk down, and the Botanic Garden, Steephill Cove and the cliff paths towards St Catherine's are all within easy reach. Ventnor's sheltered microclimate keeps it noticeably warmer than the rest of the Island, and the town has a slightly bohemian character that suits couples looking for somewhere small, quiet and comfortable.

What guests say
We just had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at the Idyllic Ventnor Bay House. We had been searching around for somewhere to stay and were very impressed with all the 5/5 Ratings. We were not disappointed at all. Everything you read in the Reviews below are true. When we arrived, we had a very warm welcome from Richard and were shown to our spacious comfy room with a lovely view of the Downs beyond. There wasn’t just tea making facilities, there was cake, fruit and other drinks. We felt spoilt. The room and the bed were very comfy. The breakfast was simply amazing with Richard offering to provide for any taste. And as stated below, full of suggestions of what to see and do to get the most out of your holiday. Thoroughly recommend Ventnor Bay House but please don’t book when we want to book 😀.

A superb B&B set in a wonderful relaxing sea view setting. Richard is an amazing kind hearted host who will help you in any way he can. Beautiful room with excellent views and a lovely relaxing bed. Richard added extras in the room such as a bowl of fruit, cake, sherry and a fridge with small bottles of milk and soft drinks. This was all a wonderful surprise when we arrived. Richard makes the most perfect delicious breakfasts and his cooking is excellent. I highly recommend staying here and my husband and I cannot wait to return for future holidays.

We stayed at Ventnor Bay House for 2 nights in March of 2022 and it really is a wonderful place to stay. Richard is a very attentive and accommodating host. Upon finding out we were vegan he went out, bought produce and cooked us an amazing breakfast. The room is spacious and clean, the bed is so comfortable it was like sleeping on a cloud and you can not beat the view out of the window when you wake up. (We stayed in the Seaview room). Ventnor bay house is an absolute gem and we would recommend it to anyone staying in Ventnor.
