About Beirhope Alpacas
Tucked into the peaceful Kale Valley with alpacas as your neighbours, Beirhope Alpacas offers proper Scottish Borders remoteness without being impossibly far-flung – Berwick-upon-Tweed and the Berwickshire coast are both under an hour's drive. The handful of pitches include woodland spots and open paddocks, some with private bathroom amenities, all non-electric. On-site alpaca trekking lets you get acquainted with the resident herd, while nearby Thowliestane Hill (a 10-minute walk) rewards hikers with Iron Age hillfort remains and sweeping views. After dark, expect spectacular stargazing – bring a head torch.
Facilities are simple: composting and portable loos, bucket showers, a washing-up area, and communal fridges and freezers. Firepits, barbecues and firewood are available to purchase, as are hot drinks and basic provisions. Wheelbarrows ease the trek from car park to pitch. It's dog-friendly and genuinely remote, so don't expect luxury – but if you're after wild camping vibes with a dash of alpaca charm, this tiny site delivers. Jedburgh, 15 minutes west, covers bigger shopping and pub meals.

My fiancé had booked this as part of a surprise for me and I have to say it did not disappoint. Incredible day spending time feeding the Alpacas and even got to take Phil for a walk. Lynne was lovely and keeps a beautiful alpaca farm nestled in the stunning borders countryside. If you’re looking for something a bit different to do I would definitely recommend! The Alpacas enjoyed the day too - one was even having a lie down in the sun as pictured. Thank you Lynne 🥰

What a fabulous experience. If we could give a 6th star we would! Lynn was outstanding from the moment we arrived. She took time to explain everything we needed to know about how our time would be spent and as well as all the do’s and donts of being with the alpacas. Time spent feeding the animals before getting them ready for the lovely walk up into the forest on the adjoining hillside. The walk was at an easy pace for all, kids and adults alike. Lynn was on hand to support and answer questions as well as chat to everyone, getting to know their names and a bit more about them. She really took an interest in us all. After the walk we browsed the well stocked shop and again Lynn was on hand. She also provided recommendations for places to get lunch in Jedburgh which we did and really enjoyed too. All in all we cannot recommend Beirhope Alpacas and Lynn highly enough, a great family day out. Thank you.

I booked the alpaca walk for myself and my hubby as part of our Easter weekend stay at Kelso. It was something I'd wanted to do for a long time, and we had a fab visit. Loved the scenery, the team, the animals, all the educational info from Cheryl...even the weather stayed dry for our whole trek. Despite being uphill, the slope was gentle and the exercise level easy. Great for those of us who aren't in peak fitness!! Our alpaca, Daniel, was adorable and he kept us entertained with his antics. Nice to feed all of the alpaca some carrots on our return to the paddock too. The trip was perfectly completed with a pop into the shop/cafe, and buying some of the yarn made from Daniel's own fleece. Got to love the provenance. Highly recommend a visit here to anyone considering it. Many thanks to Lynne and the team.
