The Mistress’ House

King's Lynn and West Norfolk

View on Google Maps

The Mistress' House opens into a generous ground floor where living, dining and kitchen flow together as one space. A stone fireplace with wood burner anchors the room; beyond it, the kitchen handles everyday cooking with gas, a dishwasher and everything needed to feed seven people. Stairs with a distinctive turret rise to three bedrooms spread across the first floor: one with a super king bed and ensuite shower, another with three singles and an ensuite bath, and a third double that shares a bathroom with the singles room. Two bathrooms serve the property overall, along with towels, bed linen and wifi throughout. The house sits on Boston Square next to the Sensory Garden, far enough from the seafront to feel quiet, close enough to reach the beach and clifftop within a few minutes on foot.

This is an 1880s Arts and Crafts building, once part of a larger townhouse, with the kind of period character that comes from genuine age rather than decoration. The courtyard opens to a garden with furniture for sitting out. One well-behaved pet is welcome. The property does contain a turreted staircase and some narrow stairs, which may affect access for those with mobility issues. Shops, restaurants and a pub lie roughly half a mile away, with the Sunset Inn the nearest licensed venue.

This is a wonderful holiday property, more spacious than it looks, plenty of character as well as a modern kitchen and bathrooms. Really great location too and a nice welcome pack. The only drawback is that due to the age and character of the building, the stairs are not particularly suitable for small children, my two (6 and 3) were ok although needed repeated warnings to walk and be careful! They loved the fact that there were two staircases!!
