What visitors say
Absolutely disgraceful treatment at Planet Ice Blackburn Arena. I was there with my 8-year-old daughter for a competition. Anyone with common sense knows ice rinks are freezing—especially for kids sitting around between performances. I stepped out for a few minutes to Costa Coffee to get hot drinks so we could warm up. On returning, I was stopped and told I was NOT allowed to bring the drinks inside and had to leave them outside. No explanation, no empathy, no flexibility—just a blunt refusal. So what was the result? We had to throw the drinks away and rush back in, leaving my child cold and uncomfortable. For what? A ridiculous, overly strict rule that completely ignores basic human needs. This isn’t just bad customer service—it’s heartless. You’re hosting children’s events in an ice-cold environment, yet you refuse to allow something as simple as a hot drink to keep them warm. It’s beyond unreasonable. Policies are one thing, but complete lack of common sense and compassion is another. This place clearly has no understanding of how to treat families or children. I will not be returning, and I would strongly advise other parents to think twice before attending. If this is how customers are treated, especially kids, it’s simply unacceptable.

Been a couple of times now to watch my son play ice hockey. Never watched before but it's a great game. Non stop high speed action!

I've been going here for years, even had lessons for a year. Like all ice skating, its pricey. But they've done a lot to fix the rink (it was a bit wet and pocked for our public skate today though) and the cafe is good and well-priced. Perhaps they should service the hire skates more. I take my own, and I despair when I look at the stock blue plastic ones that have no edges at all. For the sake of a bit more regular maintenance, folks would get a much better experience of the sport and come away feeling more competent, I can't help feeling. The only other advice would be to open up more of the surrounding seats rather than cause the bottle neck at the rink entrance and make everyone walk about with wet socks on their way to boot up. Don't have a solution to that. The lockers are good, and the ice staff are always in sight. Of course, I love skating and will always return there. Give it a go. Lessons are great and for £50 a month you'll become a competent skater in a few weeks which remains with you for life.

I had pre-booked online for the Subzero skate session on Friday 13th in the evening at approximately 7:50. However, I would like to raise a couple of concerns regarding my experience. Firstly, the sessions are advertised as £10 for students, yet when proceeding with the booking the price increased to £13.20, £16.20 with skate hire. This felt misleading, as the advertised price did not match the final amount charged. Secondly, I experienced very poor customer service from the receptionist on duty. I felt that I was spoken to in a rude and dismissive manner, particularly regarding my student ID. While I was attempting to bring up my student ID to show it, I was told that I would need to pay more, despite already paying more than the advertised £10 when booking online. I also felt that I was spoken down to because of my age, which was upsetting and unnecessary. I believe customers should be treated with respect regardless of their age, and the interaction left me feeling quite uncomfortable as if i was with my mum I would’ve had a totally different experience. Overall, I found the experience disappointing and would appreciate clarification regarding the student pricing as well as reassurance that customers will be treated respectfully in the future.
